Sounds like he had a very good game.
Quoted Text
Danny Rose captained his country and Junior Brown completed 90 minutes at left-back as the England C team drew 1-1 with Italy in the International Challenge Trophy at Highbury. A spectacular goal from Federico Angiulli after 48 minutes was cancelled out deep into stoppage time by substitute Adam Watkins.
The game was an exciting one as the 4,628 fans at Highbury were treated to a flowing game of football by two good young national sides. Both Town players performed well in front of their home crowd, with Brown making a number of important challenges in defence as well as helping out England’s forward play from the left, while Rose was as sharp as ever and remained a threat to the Italian back four.
Rose almost gave England the lead on the 25th minute, but his shot from the edge of the box was saved by Alberto Brignoli in the Italian net, while Michael Coulson also had an opportunity to put them 1-0 up only two minutes later. Matthew Blair’s fantastic through ball was met by Coulson, who tried to round the ‘keeper and squeeze a shot past him at the near post but was forced just wide.
Italy had their fair share of chances before taking the lead; Fabio Meduki tried his luck from outside the area and rattled the post, while Simone Corazza’s shot whistled past the goalframe. Just minutes after the second half began, the Italians were in front as Angiulli sent a curling 20-yard left-footed strike past the hapless Jonathan Hedge into the top right-hand corner.
England kept up the pressure soon after conceding, Kieron Forbes almost getting on the end of a low cross from the impressive Coulson on the hour mark, while Matthew Blair and Jamie Turley also had opportunities to score.
Manager Paul Fairclough made a number of substitutions and a replacement for Rose was amongst them, the Town striker leaving the field on the 70th minute to the sound of applause after earning his fifth cap.
Coulson and substitute Adam Boyes came close late on, but it was Watkins with the injury-time equaliser. A deep cross into Italy’s area was cleared as Brignoli missed the ball, and the Luton Town midfielder was on hand to fire home from the edge of the area to give England a deserved share of the spoils.
