I love playing around with words and numbers, and have found words of nine letters that only have one syllable in them, and words of eight letters that have five syllables in them. Strange thing language. If anyone knows of any more nine letter words - or indeed, anything bigger - with only one syllable please feel free to add on. Same with words of eight letters and five syllables.

Nine letter words with one syllable.   SCRATCHED, STRETCHED, STRENGTHS, SCRUNCHED

Eight letter words with 5 syllables,   UNIONISM, IDEALISM, IDEOLOGY, ACADEMIA, ETHIOPIA

There are many words of six letters with four syllables such as IDIOCY, but I think the eight letter, five syllable words can not be beaten....unless of course, you know better?
