Football fans united

I still remember being shocked by the TV footage. There was a bloke who ran onto the pitch to get out of it and you could see it only then occurred to him that his hair was on fire.

There but for the grace of God could have been the Main Stand without the safety measures which were brought in. Even then, I vaguely remember a small fire under part of the stand in one game.

Well said.. just seen it featured on the local news again, and seeing the scenes again takes you back to when it happened. Truly awful. So many affected, bereaved.. seeing Neil Redfearn talking about it and tears in his eyes. One ‘good’ thing to come of it I guess was the changes to stadia, although of course it’s always too late.

Although hard to watch - important it’s remembered, and it must be said also the brilliant John Helm, who was covering it live.. what a job he did, as always.

Beyond rivalry…

Unfortunately my original thread got deleted -The tragedy on May 11, 1985, claimed the lives of 56 people, including 54 Bradford City fans and two supporters from their opponents that day - Lincoln City. A further 258 people were injured.

If we put in perspective what kind of a season we've had with the ups and downs etc.- let's not us all remember and take time and just reflect on that tragedy 40 years ago - I'm sure we've all been to matches home and away with our loved ones, children, wives, husbands etc that we just take for granted waiting for us ull to come home, telling the tales of the game like we do every week - but I can't imagine the pain  they went through afterwards - forget the released and the retained thread let's just remember those who tragically lost loved ones- I'd like to pay respect for those that unfortunately were involved in this terrible tragedy and consequently the families that still live with this - RIP all involved

One of the stands at Lincoln city is called the Stacey West stand, that’s the surnames of the two Lincoln city supporters who sadly lost their lives.

I never knew that. I’m 53 and really should’ve.

I used to go up and stand behind the centre rail in the Barret stand; and sometimes think to myself, how many more people can they let in here.

Underneath was so much litter and paper; and so many people were smoking and dropping cigarette ends on the floorboards, which had gaps in them.

That could so easily have been us.

I recall being in the Pontoon Stand in the 70's and somebody dropped a tab end and it lodged between the floorboards. The draught caused the floorboard to start smouldering red. Fortunately a guy saw it and drunk on it to put it out.

The Pontoon had a fire underneath when Town v Halifax probably a year  after the disaster? It caused panic I think we still had the fences up and people piled over the OB thought it was crowd trouble to start with then opened the gates.Miracle really I think one supporter broke a leg everyone else was ok

That just sounds like an excuse because he couldn't be arsed to make his way to the toilet.
