I used to really trust Tondeur’s judgement on games until covid and the words were put together with pictures and I (and a lot of others) were seeing a different game to what he was. That said, I don’t think there’s a commentator on any sport that I watch that I don’t find annoying in their own way.

He himself almost admitted as much in one of his retirement interviews, he realised it was time to go.
A radio commentator , as mentioned elsewhere above, needs to paint a picture, give the listener the vital info so they know who has the ball, what they are doing with it,  the position of play, pace of play and outside of that any details of promise or danger or details of a turnover.
"Half away" one of JT's favourites only filled you with anxiety.
