A bit earlier than expected for Eastwood, I think? I thought the rumours were that he'd be out for 6 months following his injury. Good going if he is back after such a nasty injury.

A closely fought reserve tie ended in defeat for a youthful Mariners side in the Central League Cup.

Town were unfortunate to come away with nothing, with a late goal from Tom Rennardson not enough to overturn the first half goals scored by Mansfield.

Jake Eastwood returned between the sticks, playing over an hour with Darragh Burns also featuring for 75 minutes. Charles Vernam and Curtis Thompson also featured, alongside a host of Youth Team players.

The first half began poorly for the Mariners and 26 minutes in the visitors had their opening goal. A low cross from the right flank was fortunate to find a Mansfield player to tuck home from 6 yards out.

The visitors added a second just before half time with a close-range headed effort giving Eastwood little chance.

Town netted a late goal courtesy of Rennardson, who lashed home from a good cross from Jayden Luker.

Despite sustained pressure at the end of the second half, Town were unable to find the equalising goal, but will be pleased with the minutes in the tank for a number of players.

No sign of the line up which is poor. The official site never publishes the league tables for the women or the youth team. It is a) unprofessional and b) unfortunate for a club which claims to have the fans at heart. Needs a shake up. And the ‘ they are not paid much’ argument is a red herring. If they have a job, they should do it properly. CEO please note.
