....not far off the first team. Played for the seconds last night...and popped one in. What a boost this will be for the forthcoming...

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Surprised, well not that surprised, to see Thompson get slated so regularly on here in the last few weeks. He’s had three starts, 2 in two of our best performances of the year v Accrington & Morecambe, then a stinker against Crewe.

He’s just been hammered ever since then & written off by some sections.

That's standard for The Fishy.

Davies has had some sharp criticism since being below par on return from injury as well as Thompson . Two good players there - hopefully back to previous high standards soon, and a bit of patience and encouragement will help them.

Regarding CV - great news.

Agree, was off it in one of the games (from memory) but don't think that's enough for some of the criticism, it certainly is nowhere near enough to change our opinion of the good games he's had - which is certainly more than bad!

Same with Davies to some extent, but certainly less so, some poor games - no doubt. But he has also had some really good ones.

Think fans in general do have a bit of recency bias with these things. Only as good as your last performance.

Yep absolutely mad. He was scapegoated to a bizarre degree after the Crewe match when you consider how poor most of our lot were.

What excites me about Thompson coming back is that this season we have three other CMs that are performing excellently, as opposed to last season it would have been a bit of a disaster if he wasn't available to start, so we're in a position whereby he becomes a great option to bring off the bench. He'll be a real asset when we're protecting leads or chasing a game and just not quite winning those 50/50s as we've seen countless times this season.

Let's hope he can steer clear of injury, Vernam that is.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Thompson was bizarrely bad against Crewe, making more errors during his time on the pitch than I think I've seen him make throughout the rest of his time at the club! Obviously not fully fit at the time as his subsequent injury indicates.

If fully fit, he'd be the first name on the teamsheet for me. Yes, our other midfielders have played well much of the time, but none can offer his nouse and defensive abilities - and he can play a bit as well.

Oh, and Vernam would be my second name on the teamsheet!

was actually expecting the first post to be...

"has suffered another setback and will be out for the season"

Yes, we've missed him.

Starts every time for me. Kept us up last season and the best holding midfielder at the club. All players have a bad game, he has really earned some slack in my book
