In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

And the football manager merry-go-round spins again.

Mark Goner.

John Coleman the new Gills gaffer. Didn’t see that coming.

Pretty sure John Coleman said hello to me when I was wheeled past him, after major heart surgery, in Blackpool Victoria hospital last August.
Gave me a boost and thought he had had his last management job at the age of 61.
Good luck John.

Just goes to show that appointing a manager because he's won promotion from L2 previously doesn't guarantee you success.

Took Accrington from Northern Premier League Division One to League Two (3 promotions as Champions) during his 1st spell there. In his 2nd spell he took them to League One (again as Champions) and had five seasons at that level. He's clearly a good manager. What have you got against him? I presume it's just lazy football snobbery.

I once suggested Coleman for Town and was told by a very respected ITK football person he's a total sh1thouse and one to avoid at all costs?
They never elaborated and it takes nothing away from his achievements at Accy.

How long ago was all that though? He's old school, football has moved on. Coleman's last few years at Accy looked a lot like Buckley's last spell at town. Struggled to make signings, the ones he did make were poor. He won't do well at Gillingham.
