He had superb agility and safe handling and was a large cut above anyone I had seen before, and an obvious inspiration to the rest of the team. When him, Matt Tees and Rod Green moved to Charlton it was an immense blow. Just occasionally he let a long range shot slip by him. I was told the contact lenses were to blame! But what a keeper he was, and rarely mentioned among the Grimsby greats in recent times. UTM

He was one of the nicest and most helpful of players. Always made time to have a chat and sign autographs. RIP Charlie

As some else said very agile and acrobatic. As a kid I would wait outside the changing rooms for autographs and he was always very happy to sign and tell us all stories. Really nice bloke and still one of my all time favourites. RIP Charlie.
