It's been a very long time since we got promoted from this division and almost 20 years since we even came close. But are we now genuine promotion contenders? I must admit I didn't think so until recently and thought even reaching the playoffs never mind winning them would be a tall order. Watching the top teams on TV seemed to confirm that but of late we are now playing at a level commensurate with the top sides. It's the best division to be in with 4 up and 2 down (for reasons long forgotten). The division is there for the taking though and it's long overdue that we are involved!

We are in the promotion race no doubt - first game i missed either on the box or in person yesterday so just looked at the score ,when it got to 2-0  it was game over I knew we would win ; previously i would have expected the opposition to come back and draw or win .

Teams are going to fear playing us on this form .

It's nice to dream and we certainly are in a strong position. However I think we should just take each game as it comes and sees where it leads us. We are effectively only 1 season into a journey that DA said could be a long process. We are still building a whole new ethos in the playing structure of the club extending from the youngest part of the youth system to the senior squad. This will ensure that as players progress through the age groups then they can fully understand exactly how they are expected to play.
One thing is certain is that if we keep this progress up then the end of the season could be very exciting with hopefully some big crowds at BP.

Next Saturday will be an important gauge for us. So far we have not beaten one of the leading teams so beating Crewe would be a signal.

Also there are teams below us with games in hand, if they all won all of these we’d be outside the play offs. But they have to win them.

It's definitely a weaker division than at any point since we returned to the EFL, no Wrexham a d Stockport throwing huge sums at it, and to a lesser extent Mansfield. The likes of Salford also seem to have had the taps turned off a bit. A much more even playing field.

Even if we’re around the play offs but fall just short of getting in to them, it’s a very strong position to be in for next season with a lot of our players still being contracted.

Even though I appreciate we're not the favourites to go up, I'm amazed that you can still get odds of 18-1 for us to be promoted and 200-1 to be league champions. The odds against us winning the league were 40-1 at the start of the season, and to me it feels a more likely proposition now than it did then.

Play off spots are wide open.. I think automatic promotion is a bit of a stretch for us personally. Only takes a couple results and the league changes so quickly.. I’m keeping an eye on Cheltenham.. you’d have wrote them off in September and say they were destined for a relegation fight.. now they’re sitting mid table and starting to get results..wouldn’t surprise me at all if they ended up bearer top than bottom.
