The weather could be tricky for players and fans at Morecambe on Saturday! Hope the game goes ahead, though.

The Government have issued a weather warning for the Morecambe Bay area advising people of very strong winds and torrential rain, stating that they should "batten down the hatches" and stay inside all weekend. Grimsby fans attending the match are reminded they will need their Big Coat.

Just as well I wore THREE coats on Tuesday night. So many empty seats in The Upper I was in a reyt draught pal!  Jumping around seven times helped. Five in joy, two in familiar rage.

After a pretty fair start to the season weather-wise the gods haven’t been quite as kind to us of late. I think the Colchester game probably highlighted that, as a team, we are not particularly well suited to a heavy pitch and high winds.

Those conditions certainly favoured Cowley’s team of shíthouse bástards a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve just had a quick look at Morecambe’s lineup from Tuesday night at Tranmere and, well, they’re your archetypal League Two land of the giants.

GK - Harry Burgoyne - 6ft 5”
RB - Luke Hendrie - 6ft 2”
CB - Rhys Williams - 6ft 5”
CB - Jamie Stott - 6ft 1”
LB - Adam Lewis - 5ft 9”
RW - Ben Tollitt - 6ft 0”
CM - Harvey McAdam - 6ft 4”
CM - Paul Lewis - 6ft 1”
LW - Jordan Slew - 6ft 3”
ST - Marcus Dackers - 6ft 7”

They also brought off the bench Ross Millen (6ft 2”), Kayden Harrack (6ft 3”) and Yann Songo'o (6ft 2”).

14 players used and only one of them smaller than 6ft; and 9 of them 6ft 2” or taller. Evidently, the league table and their home record tells you they’re no great shakes, but it again feels like potentially the right team at the wrong time.

If the game goes ahead (heavy rain forecast tonight but slightly lighter in the morning), we’re going to have to be prepared to manage a significant height disadvantage in swirling winds.

Keep the ball on the ground and play through them as we did on Tuesday.

Problem is if they have somebody who can deliver a good set piece. With the best will in the world, we're going to struggle with balls whacked into the centre of the box, when we only have a couple of players of 6 feet tall! Especially if the wind is blowing towards one of the goals. Inswingers in a howling wind can be shocking to deal with.

Let's hope that Wright has a good game and can get out to claim the crosses. He's at least got the height.

Forecast non stop rain from this afternoon right through to 4pm tomorrow, not sure what their pitch is like but I think you’d have to presume it’s in doubt

Ironically, the storm could be the only thing to halt our excellent recent away form.
