Morning,
I'm sat in my kitchen drinking a coffee on this grim Sunday morning and I was thinking back to the other Day when I nipped into my local and got chatting to the local "youths". The topic of conversation while propped up at the bar was Man City's current wobble and after listening and debating with them they asked who I support I replied "Town" and only "Town". These lads began to laugh and said "f*ck supporting that sh*t" I said "Well id rather support my local club then be a arm chair supporter and support a Team hundreds of miles away".
We all know at a young age you can get roped into supporting the "BIG" clubs in the Premier League which I can understand if your dad or mum supports them but what grits my teeth when there calling each other "scousers" or "cockneys" "yids" or "Mancs" I'm sat there scratching my head and going " YOUR ALL FROM GRIMSBY!"
For me I've never got it! I'm a proud Grimbarian and supporting my club and where I'm from is in me.
So a couple of questions to maybe start a debate..
1) Does anyone on here also support another club higher up in the English pyramid who and why?
2) Do you believe in supporting Two clubs?
3) What could the club do to bring in the next Generation of supporters and what should we do more to incorporate the club more into local schools and make it affordable to bring a child to games with promos ?
(Yes I know my grammar isn't the best I am dyslexic haha so please go easy on me)

I think there is a fine line between supporting and having an affinity towards a higher club . If everyone is honest , most people do, it’s instilled at childhood. I’m a town fan but I do have an affinity towards a premiership team . Yes I do enjoy the premiership, unlike some on here . It is often fantastic to watch , albeit with its faults .

Pretty much everyone I know with one or two exceptions support or at least like another club higher up the pyramid. My two closest friends are both proud grimbarians but both are season ticket holders at Liverpool each to there own

Nowadays it’s so easy to watch the big clubs on tv. Therefore easy to have at least an affinity to them and choose them as “your team”, and not buy into their local team.
Therefore easy trouble with this is they then don’t buy in to their local club and so starve the local club of money to improve on and off the field
Subsequently it self perpetuates the “not following that s**t, I follow a Premier club” process.

Some of this attraction to " big clubs"is, IMO , a need to associate with success as opposed to the apparent failure of a team that struggles in the lower reaches of the football league.

Having left Lincolnshire at age 18, I was already hooked on supporting the Mariners and still watch them when I can in my dotage.
However I have lived in a number of other parts of the country and actually held season tickets at two other clubs, and I still have affection for them.
I have a lifelong friend who left the UK and married a Greek girl, and still lives there as a Town fan. His daughter is called Marina! His son Tim, father, uncle and I went to a Town match once and the son was kitted out in full black and white, aged 14 . Tim then asked us “ I live in Greece, so why do I need to support Grimsby?” Fair question, but his dad replied that his uncle, dad and grandad supported Town and it was in the blood. Eventually his dad relented and allowed Tim to support Liverpool as his Premier League team!

Depends what ‘supporting’ definition you use. I was told that your team picks you, not the other way around. I only love Town. But I moved to North Yorkshire when I was 18 and went to a few York games and supported them (not instead of Town I hasten to add!). Just because it was local football. . My son was born in Harrogate so that’s his team and I’ll support them if they’re not playing us as I want to share that with him. Both of those clubs have been supported with my money and our backing. I’ve got a friend who supports Middlesbrough and I’ve been to the riverside to watch them a dozen times in the last few years and enjoyed that and cheered their goals in togetherness with my friend. Most people support a national team too don’t they. The only results that affect me emotionally are Town’s. One love.

I support Town, people can support as many teams as they want, that doesn’t work for me..
In terms of the next generation have a look around BP on game day, loads of youngsters & a fair bit going on in the community, so long term engagement without short term giveaways which is the right strategy.

I’m from Louth, couldn’t dream of affording to go to games as a kid, only football I watched was Sunday grandstand and England games on tv. Never really supported any one team, didn’t like Liverpool or Arsenal, quite liked late eighties Man Utd and villa. Then when I got to 18, began earning my own money, a mate took me to town on Boxing Day and either I found my team or my team found me. Been a season ticket holder for a few years, lived in London for five years and watched away games. Sadly neither of my kids even like football which possibly stemmed from me returning home from games and saying something like “well that was crap” for about five years 😂

| I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!
From the black and white striped shirts To the fish in the sea You'll hear us singing Coz we are Grimsby.
You won't hear us crying But you'll hear us shout Coz we are the Grimsby And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!
