Grimsby West is in the news again: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg7gx97veggoPerhaps a conversation similar to the following could take place between Mr Stockwood, Mr Pettit and the housing developers: Hello, we're the owners of Grimsby Town Football Club. We gather you are planning to build a primary school, community hub and village store adjacent to the A1136.Yes, that's right.Would it be possible to position the classrooms, meeting rooms and retail unit in the shape of a football stadium? We can make a contribution to the cost of construction.Sure, we can do that. It should help to sell our new houses to your supporters. What size did you have in mind? Our fanbase would like the club to compete in the Championship, so we're thinking minimum 15,000. Some people on the New Fishy don't like Doncaster's Keepmoat bowl, so maybe four separate stands would be better. Each one will have around 22 rows of seats. The view from the back rows will be about the same as row G of the Upper. That's plenty high enough. Having one stand twice the height of the rest of the ground is bad for atmosphere, especially when some selfish tw@ts buy season tickets for cup priority but stay away from the majority of home games.Okay, we'll brief our architect and the legal department will draw up a tenancy agreement.Fantastic! We can't wait to announce this at a press conference. Everyone passionate about the Mariners will be thrilled that the club is finally moving into the 21st century. Well, there's bound to be a few individuals in Cleethorpes without cars or friends who won't want to travel across town on a bus, but overall attendance should increase. We thought you wanted to build a stadium near the cemetery, with fast food restaurants, a supermarket and petrol station next to the crematorium. No, get your facts right. That was the previous owner. We don't know how he can sleep at night.Thank goodness Extreme Leisure didn't manage to submit a planning application. The traffic congestion during the week would have been bad enough. Matchday afternoons would be gridlock. Far from the A180, far from a bus route, far from the railway line, Peaks Parkway is a poor location.Yes, the council saw sense and came to the same conclusion. After we showed no interest in Freeman Street, they lost patience and issued an ultimatum: either relocate to Grimsby West or forever stay at Blundell Park, maximum capacity 10k. The latter would likely mean never playing higher than League One. We didn't want that.

“Hello, we see that you have spent years developing proposals for a massive residential development with all the associated infrastructure. Would you like to plonk a fųcking great football stadium in the middle of it, which would generate a huge surge of vehicular traffic through the centre of the residential layout about 23 times per year, but for the rest would just be an unsightly, out-of-proportion structure?”
“Couldn’t you just build it somewhere more appropriate with the S106 money?”
“Yes”
“Good, stop ringing me”.

We cannot even get a training ground up and running. Which is basically 3 fields and a building with a gym.

The reasons which have been explained by the Chairman, some time ago.

TBF to Yoda for once he's got a bit of a point, Viability issues with a site mean just move on to the next site. I can't fathom the logic, years of delay will equate to substantial cost inflation, just find another site and crack on, it's not the most complex of development.
