In an attacking role Vernam is very good but you must admit that because of injuries he is in and out of the team. He has been with us ( this time anyway) for 15 months approx and this is his second medium to longish term injury. He has also shown in the past with us and other clubs several injuries which have required not playing for a few weeks each time. I think the 3 year contract awarded by PH was too long and I certainly don't think we are getting " value for money" especially with another season to go after this one. The downside of his play is the lack of support he gives his full- back.
The things can co -exist that Vernam has done really yet Barrington has taken his chance - totally different players but the massive positive is they are both very good in their own ways . The injuries although annoying might actually be a blessing if/when we have everyone fit - I doubt Khouri/Barrington Green and Gardner would have got as much game time with everyone fit but they have shown they are more than capable of playing important roles . Luker & Obikwu must be nearing challenging aswell Come November Artell could have some real headaches in a good way if this set of players keep up their form .

I think CV would be better used in a free no 10 role when he comes back and a more robust / fitter player used in that left sided position that can help Hume out more . Having said that , I’d expect Barrington to make that decision difficult as I think he’s going to come good the more games he gets .

I'm as disappointed with anyone about the two injuries he's picked up here. We paid a fee and there's no doubt he'll be a relatively high earner. But it's a myth that he arrived here with an injury record, far from it. I don't think we can have a go at Hurst for giving him a 3-year-deal. He was proven and effective at this level, came from a higher level and his injury record was fine. What's happened since he's got here is more of a concern to me. Might be really bad luck or something else like we're not managing his body demands properly, I don't know. I'm torn on the helping full-backs out issue. Of course we don't want an Eisa type who just watches as his full-back gets torn about, I don't think Vernam's anywhere near that. But equally so I don't really want the typical Hurst type winger (which is why it was so surprising that Hurst continued to pursue Vernam) who is pretty much a slightly advanced wing-back and it's more about stopping the opposition than hurting them. A really good and effective attacking winger won't need to do much defending because their threat alone is enough to pin opposition players back.

Shocking injury record from a young age. I'm not sure he's ever been fit for a full season. Injured at every club he's been at. Such a shame for him, injury free with a good run and he's playing at a higher level.

Possibly totally coincidental but Hume appears to have improved substantially without Vernam in front of him.

I noticed that and nearly posted as such earlier.

Feel like I'm on commission for this here - https://forum.thefishy.co.uk/Blah.pl?m-1712592584/highlight-Vernam/id-1725662#id1725662His record prior to coming here is not of an injury prone player. Since coming back here, different story.
He's missing 10 games a season plus. He had big injuries at Derby and only managed 7 games on loan in his first spell with us because he was injured. He consistently gets injuries that last months. He's 28 week and has not played many games. He's only had 3 seasons when he's played over 30 games in all competitions with the highest being 41. He absolutely fits the profile of an injury prone player.
