surprised nobody has mentioned it, but a GTFC reserve team won 2-0 in a semi competitive away game at Chesterfield against a basically under 21 side Good to see Pyke n Tharme getting some competitive minutes
Matty Carson sounds much less interesting than Maltby. He should own his name, especially as it makes him sound like a player from the 1920s. He should also wear long stockings, use brylcream and smoke a pipe to keep in character.
Good to see Tharme getting some game time. I wonder if Pyke has any sort of a role to play if he eventually gets fit?

"Quite the case Watson, Maltby Carson is a cad and a bounder and I have a mind to thrash him until he sees the error of his ways...."
" I urge great caution Holmes, I do not differ from your assessment of him but he hails from Grimsby, a town where even cads and bounders can match any man in a bare knuckle contest"
Miss Scunthorpe. Not a beauty pageant, just sound advice.
It's probably not been mentioned before now because finding out who played and what the score was necessitated digging around on twitter and looking through loads of users replies since the club themselves have completely neglected to provide any updates through the official channels.
Apparently Gardner scored both goals (according to someone on twitter anyway) so it'll be interesting to see how that impacts his place in the striking pecking order. Definitely to me feels like he'll produce goals if he gets a proper run in the first team.
Depends if he’s utilised as a striker or played out on the right..as he has been played thus far. Think Artell is protecting him playing in that role.. as he’s young etc.. but if he has a knack of scoring goals then does it matter how old you are?
Different scenario all together but it still rankles with me we did that with Ross Hannah. He was a born goal scorer..(still is even at his age) ..prolific.. and we shoved him on the wing or gave him 15 mins as a sub.
To be fair, the Ross Hannah we had on loan was completely different to the Ross Hannah we signed permanently.
The lad we had on loan was just a pure fox-in-the-box. You gave him the ball and he finished it off, didn't even feel in doubt. His goal at home to Wrexham, just before Xmas summed him up to perfection - very good delivery into the box but right place, right time and finished nicely.
(about 6:30 onwards).
Don't quite know what happened between his loan spell ending and him coming back permanently but he just looked a completely different player in the space of a few weeks. Think it was Welling away in the FA Trophy when he missed a penalty on his second debut and not sure if it knocked his confidence but he went from scoring something like 8 in 17 whilst on loan to 1 in 20 for the rest of the campaign.
His arrival (permanently) was also at the time when Scott and Hurst went a bit mad on strikers bringing in LJL and Richard Brodie to compliment Hannah, Andy Cook plus Liam Hearn who was nearing a return from his knee injury. I think Dayle Southwell was making a case for game time too.
I think maybe our style of play changed a little bit and certainly with the arrival of LJL it was more about playing the percentages. Neilson didn't return from his loan and whilst Marcus Marshall did he didn't seem the same. Before Xmas having those two out wide was a big part of our game with Cook the physical foil for Hannah.
I always like Hannah but to me he was the type of striker who needed every part around him to be perfect and that seemed to work with Cook winning the loose balls for him and then Neilson/Marshall supplying from out wide. When he came back everything had completely changed. He also had an infuriating ability to always be offside too.
With regards Gardner, I was told last season (just before he signed his pro deal) that the club have serious expectations for him to make something of himself and there was a genuine disbelief that he hadn't been poached. Of course there's always a degree of the unknown with young lads making that step-up so you'll rarely hear anyone connected to a youth set-up talk about a sure thing, but it's fair to say that there will be surprised faces if Gardner doesn't make it.
Artell's got previous and very good form for blooding young lads from his time at Crewe. You've got to believe that he knows what he's doing with Gardner. I've found myself a little disappointed when he's used Gardner out wide as he doesn't really look a winger, not in the slightest but that's probably why I'm not a football manager and Artell is!

The header on the team sheet is 'Central League' - now I was under the impression that the Central League was defunct & we didn't have a reserve team as such anyway?
