A big thank you to all the fans who made the journey, you were fantastic. A safe journey home to one and all. I hope the fan who needed the attention in the first half is ok. It's a shame Town did play to our expectations.

First half we moved the ball with purpose and created chances which we should of got a goal from . Second half Fleetwood sat deep and we just didn’t run at them and get balls in the box quick enough. We’ve got a talented set of lads so hopefully it will click after a few games but I’m not too worried about today

Really poor second half, we looked shattered and out of ideas.

The first 2 mins you thought we were in for a treat, both Vernam and JDS missing really good chances. When JDS went off you the game just completely shifted, poor Barrington looked absolutely lost. Midfield failed to play one decent forward pass and all the hope from the first few minutes just disintegrated.

Disappointed, but it’s the first game of the season without a couple of good players, I think Davies is going to be key to this midfield working. No season was ever lost in the first game, but we’re certainly going to need to be much better.

Hoping to god JDS isn’t injured for long.

I reckon it was just a kick for JDS, impact injury rather than anything too serious. That's unless it's a cracked metatarsal!

I suspect he'll be disappointed that he didn't do better with those two chances before he went off.

If you start a game with Khouri and Green you’re up against it.

2 wide men started well, we should have scored, but didnt hit the target and we did intercourse all else but pass around the back and create nowt.

Barrington looked miles out his depth so hope he improves with time, wilson had nothing to work with, Vernam after his initial 2 mins was absolutely crap.

I’m no fan of Artell, but he deserves till end of Sept to see where we are at, but continue like this and we’re in big dog excrement

It’s the first game of the season and you’re talking about when we might sack a manager (you’ve given him 7 league games).

I’m often told our fans are incredible, I agree, just not in the way you might think.

No im talking about his whole time in charge.

Today was absolutely shite, 0 shots on target, you in partiular harped on constantly about how turgid you found Hursts football.

That today was worse.

I’m not really sure what to make of that to be honest. At times we moved the ball fairly well in our own third and then in the midfield areas, but looked impotent going forward, baring the first 5 minutes. Fleetwood worked us out early, let us pass around at the back, pack the midfield and stifle anything that we produce.

We look better than we did last season, if that one 90 minutes is anything to go by. McJannett definitely improves us, not only does he offer that balance of a left foot but he’s very composed on the ball and made some excellent blocks and interceptions. Cass looked a little rigid at times. Khouri looked like he’s developed well over the summer, and McEachran also helps us in possession. I’m not entirely convinced that midfield 3 with Green looked balanced at all though, and Davies looked rusty to say the least when he came on. Vernam looked his usual self, busy and dangerous for 10 minutes, then anonymous for the rest of the game. Barrington showed some nice flashes but you could really tell it was his first ‘proper’ game. Shame about JDS, he was causing problems, hopefully he’s not out for long, but it’d be our luck that he’s done a metatarsal!

Overall, I guess they were a league one side last season, we were away from home and we’re still gelling as a team so not all bad. We just have to be able to play well in all 3 thirds of the pitch, I couldn’t see any of these attacking patterns of play that have been mentioned, in fact we barely laid a glove on them today and that desperately needs to change if Artellball is going to work.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

I did, but Hurst proved he’d never change from that tactic. Artell has had 90 minutes with players he’s signed (and at least 3 key players out) and people are already rubbing their hands hoping he fails. It’s absolutely bewildering to me, you just knew the type of reaction we’d get to one bad game today and it’s happening already, just like it did over signings in pre season.
