A question about how a data led approach identifies transfer targets?
I was watching the Blackburn v Derby game and Blackburn bought on a Japanese player who looked pretty decent. Which got me thinking how do you find a player like that?
Similarly to us signing JDS. Would we have a scout in Iceland or teams like Blackburn have scouts in Japan? Or do teams have a big database when looking for criteria of a player they want?

The best way to get an idea how it all works I would suggest is to watch the movie Money Ball (currently on Netflix I do believe), it's a baseball film based on the idea of using data to sign players.
As for the data I assume we subscribe to the company (forget the name of it seen it mentioned somewhere) and they do all the analytics and we just look through the numbers, looking at key stats like assists, passion completion, tackles won etc

| I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas
The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Think I am right in saying that we have a tie up with 21st group, and we are their only client in the bottom 2 divisions. (Plymouth were also clients, but they ended up getting promotion...) I also seem to remember from previous interviews, that whilst most of the bottom 48 use data, it is almost on a piecemeal basis, whilst we have invested in it and used it to its fullest

Usually Scout7 or Wyscout what clubs use, I'm sure there's more going about aswell! We may even use a different one!

So as the posters are on here rushing to give the plaudits for Artell, does he actually have any say or is he just the head coach and it is the responsibility of others to recruit?

In his interviews it is clear that he is involved in the recruitment process.

It's a collaboration between recruitment staff, coaches and D.A...D.A does have the final decision though.

If you listened to any interviews, you would realise that he does get involved. He credits a relationship he has with someone at Brighton for the Barrington deal. Pearson was character reference for Davies, but Artell decided to take charge of conversations to sound him out rather than his mate, Pearson. We need to move away from this idea of one person making the recruitment decisions. Success is only going to happen if everyone pulls together and works collaboratively.

I also believe we have a close working relationship with data and systems/ staff at Brighton.
