Some loan deal this, at first glance.

Appreciate he's only 19yo but curious he wasn't out on loan last year as has some decent plaudits. eg "He was named by English newspaper The Guardian as one of the best first year scholars in the Premier League in October 2021"

He was involved with the first team whilst also playing in the PL2, Brighton very much a club that like to give the youngsters a chance in the first team rather than letting them go out on loan. He probably fell victim to the fact they have a lot of wide talent but featured on the bench a few times.

A local lad, who has been at the club since the age of six, Barrington loves to drift in from either flank to score, as he did for a close range finish in the under-18s’ season-opening 3-0 win over Manchester United, his debut for Ben Wilkinson’s side. Two-footed, rangy and with a penchant for dribbling, Barrington, who already has his own Instagram fan-page, was on target again for the under-18s in September’s 5-2 victory over Southampton. Emulating Phil Foden to become another poster boy for City’s academy seems a difficult task but this is the dream Barrington chases.

September 2022 update The wide player signed for Brighton in the summer with the Under 21 coach, Andrew Crofts, saying: “Luca had an outstanding campaign at Under-18 level last season. He’s got a lot of ability, a great attitude and we’re really excited to start working with him.”

October 2023 update After a very good season with six goals and eight assists in 24 Premier League 2 matches for Brighton he is looking to take the next steps in his development in 2023-24.

I did say we had signed a good footballer with pedigree, with what I have seen in the last two home games, with a few quality signings, I think we have a half decent squad this season to push on.

Certainly got the right pedigree, I know that JS has said in the past that we've been building a relationship with Brighton so I guess this might be a product of that too perhaps.

Pedigree of the squad is looking good, yes; the Racing Post season preview has us finishing 20th and possibly getting dragged into a relegation battle - the main issue being an inexperienced squad. We sign Davies and one more with good EFL experience and I’d be more comfortable.

Wasn’t we touted to do quite well last season though and look how that ended!

Yes the RP had us as a good outside bet for play-offs.

Looking at the business we had done early, the cup-run the previous season and probable expectation that we had a bit more budget firepower left in the tank when the RP preview was written you could understand that.

Their favourites for the drop are Morcambe and Accy, with Harrogate and Bromley also below us. Franchise for the title, Carlisle (?) 2nd then Donny. My bets will Franchise, Donny, Port Vale
