I was on trial at Leicester when he was the assistant there, he always spoke very highly of Grimsby and he was a great man who kept in touch after I was released to always wish me well. RIP Craig

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

Madness. Not fair. RIP Craig...

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

One of my favourite memories of Shaky is him side footing the ball into the corner from the edge of the box at the Ponny end   . Can’t remember who against but absolute quality finish.

Brilliant tribute from Pearson, there. I remember him scoring for us at Edgely Park many years ago (I think?). Have a feeling we lost the game, but it's my main memory of him. A really solid midfielder.

Really good midfield player for us, when Town were in the upper divisions- plus a very good Premier Division Coach.

Was one of my favourite players as a 7/8/9 year old.

Was too young to know about the nuances of football, so can't really remember anything about his style or attributes....just that i really gravitated towards him!

Would love to hear thoughts from some posters older than me on how he played for us and what he brought to Buckleys and Laws' team.

RIP Shakey, gone far too soon.

Very sad news.

I had the pleasure of meeting Shakey on his doorstep while  delivering his Christmas turkey, around 30 years ago

"Are you Craig Shakespeare?" I asked. "Err...yeah." he replied sheepishly. It was almost as if he was surprised I recognised him.

I had a brief chat with him about Town before leaving him be. He came across as very modest, unassuming and warm.

I read this paragraph about his playing career.

As a player, Shakespeare had a decent left foot, and one of his best moments for Grimsby was doing a man-marking job on Ruud Gullit in a FA Cup tie against Chelsea in 1996.

RIP Shakey

Remember that Chelsea game very well. We came close to beating them in the first game. At the time it seemed the norm for us to go toe to toe with a Premier League team and for one of our midfielders to overshadow a legend of the game. For any younguns feeling left out it shows the enormity of what was achieved 27 years later when we managed to get to a cup quarter final with a much less talented squad.

RIP Shaky - a great player / coach and by all accounts an even better bloke.

I was in my prine (17) when Shakespeare' signed and he was a coup for this club. Always played consistently well at a higher level before us. I can't even put it into terms how this signing would look in this day and age for comparison it's like town signing (sorry I just can't think of anyone) an experienced but still fit championship midfielder who everyone still knew about 121 times is a lot  for a player in his prime to play for this club and he wasn't just a player passing his time away. Heard he was a great coach too what he did at Leicester will never be repeated.

R.I.P Craig thanks for the memories
