I will be running this again for the next season starting 10th August. I wondered if anybody would like to suggest any changes.

The points I use are:-

1 point Win/Lose/Draw
5 Points Correct Score
5 Points time of the first goal, either side
3 Points for the nearest time if the correct time is not predicted
5 Points for Town's first goal scorer
3 Points for each for other Town goal scorers, if not the first one
5 Points for correct Gate
3 Points for the nearest Gate if the correct one is not predicted
5 Points Away Gate
3 Points for the nearest away Gate if the correct one is not predicted

Predictions will close 2 hours before the stated kick off time
Any abuse of predictions( ie several goalscorers for town) to try for points will be warned and then 10 points will be deducted


Any suggestions should be easy for me( I'm not a techy) and fair to all who take part.


You can please some of the forumites some of the time but not all the forumites all of the time

If someone predicts a 0 - 0 then they should earn a bonus point for correctly predicting no scorer. At the moment the only get points for the correct score guess. All other scores people can earn extra points for guessing the scorer too, but with 0 - 0 that is impossible

Just like to add this is really good of DB to run again. Not easy to do, time consuming etc - but it adds to the enjoyment for many. So just a thanks from me 👍

Still think the balance of correct score and name of goalscorer is imbalanced.
Over a season, I bet if someone predicts a score of 2 goals will get more points than someone who tries to predict the correct score.

I’ve not done any analysis to support this, but believe it to be true.

Maybe increase correct score to 6 or 7 points to even things up?

I think it's fine the way it is - without over complicating the scoring.
Anyway whatever you do Dave - thanks for putting yourself up for it again.

Hi Dave, i ran one last season also, my scoring was a bit different, the only extra thing i did was to make every 5th match a double points game, if you need any help with anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Dave
First of all many thanks for volunteering to run the game - it is very much appreciated.
I agree wtih Ilkley that the correct score should carry more weight - say 8 to 10 points. this would also address the issue that  people are unlikely to predict 0-0 as they lose out on any potential scorer but happy with changes or not.
