Could we be lining up with a 3-5-2 this season. Carson and Warren like to bomb forward and McJannett is a left sided centre half. We need 2 new centre midfielders with creativity and Thompson is the destroyer sat in behind and then we could actually see a strike partner for Rose.
Still work to do in the window but at least GK and CB covered now
Have you forgotten about Ainley? He looks to be the forward thinking midfielder we've been crying out for.

I'd be interested to see what the stats look like for our results playing 3-5-2 versus all other formations these past 2 seasons. There's been some significant player transition in that time but anecdotally it feels like we've been at our best (which is admittedly a low bar) with 3 at the back.

It certainly seems that Rodgers and Mullarcy were both much more comfortable and effective under that system.

Agree, it’s all gone quiet on his signing. I’d been told that he’d agreed terms already. But, was also told that Pettit was all agreed. Doesn’t mean anything until pen is put to paper I guess

So did Tharme to be fair, looked excellent as part of a back 3 but less imposing, but still decent, as part of a 2

Looks to me like Artell is building a back line with flexibility and decent options there. Now time to turn his attention to midfield and attack, I would think. We will need to be capable of scoring more than a single goal in a lot more matches than last season if we hope to do well. Over and over again it was not being able to hold onto or extend a lead last season that cost us points.

I think we were at our absolute best with 5-4-1 weren’t we, nothing betters that first half against Luton…who was the one upfront…?

I could say but I promised I wouldn't mention him after my previous fifteen rants on the subject.......

2022 FAI Cup final >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FAI_Cup_finalAviva Stadium, Dublin - Attendance: 32,412, pretty good considering Derry ground 3,700 and Shelbourne ground only 5,700. I guess mostly Dublin turned up to support Shelbourne. McJannet scored 2 of the 4 goals.

And most of the football fans in the nationalist population of the north supporting Derry perhaps?
