The football Governance bill didn't make it onto the statute book before the election but seems likely to reappear as there is a cross party consensus behind it. Interestingly one of the recommendations from the Crouch review was for a levy on Premier League transfers, but this was dropped from the previous bill. It's back on the agenda if Labour win the election with a 10% levy proposed. Anyone know how much this would raise and I wonder how it would be distributed to teams like Town?

Hope it also gives the regulator teeth to prevent our heritage from being destroyed by Arab and American multimillionaires.

Our game is for the fans, not the world monied sporting rapists.

The 10% levy isn't, it's been ruled out this morning.

Shame. Seemed like a good idea too. Premier League lobby still working then!

What a surprise, preservation of the status quo. Another chance to change things goes by.

Probably! Not wanting this to go down a completely non football/politics route (as popping on here is the only escape from it at the minute!) but they have committed to the football regulator - i think the 10% transfer thing though on inspection looks to be largely unworkable.

And I think that is why governance is needed in the first place. The complicated nature of transfers can make it tricky to determine what the value of a transfer is....and as soon as a definition is made the lawyers would find a loophole to dodge it anyway.

Football Governance Bill included in Charles Saxe-Coburg and Gotha’s speech today. Whether Starmer finds enough time between his junkets to pass the legislation is another question but hopefully good news for us in terms of prospective investment.

Hopefully this new government regulator can be as effective as Ofwat, Offgen and all the others.

With Lisa Nandy as minister of sport and our former chairman one of her largest political donors in her previous leadership bid ( along coincidentally with one Tom Shutes) I presume he has her ear and wouldn’t be suprised if he crops up as an adviser whether formally or informally.  How the world works!

JS has already been in meetings with the people who are working on the football regulator, as has Liam Scully at Lincoln.
