When were we not a secure operation and worried about not existing?
We were heading towards the trajectory of Bury and Macclesfield when John and his followers on the board approved the questionably earned money of a convicted fraudster called Alex.

Fans have a load of pops at Gav but I'm sure since he played for us he has always played at League 2 level although I could be wrong. He is certainly better than some of the dross we have had since.
Honestly, I'm struggling to think of anyone worse since. Relegation season neither Waterfall or Pollock covered themselves in glory but still prefer both over Gunning. Pair have shown that their form was a blip and reflective of the club at the time. Menayese and Hewitt later in the season were loads better than Gunning. Even someone like Harvey Rodgers when he was really struggling for form, I'd take him over Gunning. He goes down in my memory as one of the worst defenders I've seen in a Town shirt. Just garbage and utter chaos with it. Can't remember the exact game but when he was just trying to break legs is the only time I've ever willed a referee to send a Town player off.

I remember under Bignot when the club did a junior takeover day, which Mad Gav took part in and confessed to not particularly being a fan of football and preferred rugby. I also remember Bignot playing him in midfield for a game.

I take your point but you have to remember his starting point. He was really highly regarded in his Blackburn days but seemed to spend the rest of his career being annoyed that he was playing below this level. 17 (seventeen) clubs tells its own story, as does his mad disciplinary record.

We weren’t at all. Fenty for all his faults wouldn’t never have let the club go into administration as he would have lost 75% of his loans in the club and his sizeable shareholding would have gone. It would have cost him around £2m when he hadn’t put a penny of his own money in to GTFC for years. The truth is Fenty had us treading water for years whilst he waited for someone stupid enough/big enough fans to come along and give him his money back (plus the £200,000 he bullied out of the trust).

I think treading water is a bit kind isn't it?
He took over when we were in League One? He left us with a second relegation to the conference about to be rubber stamped, the only shining light in that whole period was the 2016 promotion (which, could easily be argued isn't an achievement in the sense that it's getting us back to a level that's still well below where we've more often than not stood historically ).

Him and the board (which included 2 people from the Trust may I add) were willing to accept a considerable amount of money from a convicted fraudster. Not only that, the club was chaired by a man who went on public radio to defend the fraudster and defend his crime as it only impacted banks; even though it didn't. He was also inviting his new found friend to council meetings, so if it wasn't for James Findlater et al., things could have got very messy for him and our club. It's unbelievable to think what a mess we were in and what return our then manager was set to get on his £500 investment for a seat in the boardroom.

We had a very lucky escape. Then there is the business of the £200k Trust shares. I thought he promised he would donate that to a local cause. Did that happen? I stand to be corrected but I certainly don’t recall it.
