During a Christmas chat reminiscing about former watering holes in the town a bar came up which I can remember going in a couple of times but no one could remember the name, in fact only a couple of people could even remember it being there....

Can anyone help...

It was on the ground floor of Victoria Mills, (Victoria Mills not Haven Mill) it had a red phone box inside and it used to have a live music on frequently.
I know it was only there for a few years, and I guess around 86/87 era.

Driving me mad....have done a few Google searches but nothing coming up so far.

Add your own former favourites too...

I haven’t lived in Grimsby since I was 18. Is the Tivoli Tavern still there? Harvest Moon in Waltham? The Lincoln Castle?

I think it was called The Warehouse or something similar. I went there several times and it was popular at the time.

TT still exists & open.
Harvest Moon is a co-op.
Lincoln Castle scrapped around 2010?

To be fair, the Harvest ceased to be a pub once it became one of those ember Inn places…more atmosphere on the moon than those gaffs. Like a lot of sam smiths pubs, cheap but at the cost of a vibe or atmosphere…

If people have Facebook the Grimsby and Cleethorpes history club often post stuff about local boozers…they shared an image of the Gloucester the other day…would love a place like that to be my local…

Name doesn't ring a big bell with me...but better than anything I can come up with on my own.

One other old place that came to mind just now ...Russell's Wine   Bar in Cleethorpes High St...as well as the Cross Keys on the High St too but never went in there as demolished before I was old enough

Former favourite pub for me was the Lifeboat. My first regular pub when I was old enough to drink.

Spent many an hour playing pool in the chart room with Heroes (Bowie) etc. blasting out on the Jukebox.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

The Clee Park near Ramsdens. Was the closest pub to where I used to work in the early '80's. Used to have a FULL sized snooker table in the bar so used to go there for a frame or two every now and then.

Didn't there use to be a pub near the footy ground? The Impartial or something like that.

The Imperial Hotel, now turned into flats I believe. I went on a school trip (14/15 at the time ) to watch some classic film at the ABC and 5 of us enjoyed a pint each at the Imperial; the main reason for us going on the trip. Film was rubbish.

Most of the boozers in top town I frequented In the early 90s, as soon as I had a bit of bum fluff have long gone... Macawbers, Swigs, The Bull Ring, and more recently Chambers. Don't even get me started on the Wheatsheaf (Ember Inn or whatever it is now) All the atmosphere of an airport bar, which is a massive shame as it used to be rocking in there on a Friday night when it was a spit and sawdust pub.

In Cleethorpes...Dapperz Fun Pub, Russell's (had an hilarious lock in there once).

Bags Ball (I know...not a pub) was a quality night out too. Some of the lads I drink with now still rave about their night out in the Bags, following their cricket team's tour of Lincs. One of them was chased off the premises......................... by a woman!

Them pubs ring a bell Withnail, town around the late 80’s and early 90’s was a great day/night out, I was in the Royal Navy at that time and our Saturdays consisted of meeting In The County then onto the White Hart, Vaults, Exchange, Bull ring, P&M, Hadleys and Macawbers then it was a taxi back to my mates to get our trousers on then straight back to Baker Street 😎

I only ever went in the Friar Tuck once, can you remember that one ?

The Friar Tuck was an early favourite of mine. Someone was always sticking a homosexual in the friars mouth on the mural outside.

Only time I was ever asked my age was in there by a new barmaid. It was a week after my 18th birthday. When I mentioned that I got daggers from the other barmaid as I'd been going in there for the best part of 2 years then

I don't remember Hadley's and definitely never went in was the Friar Tuck as it was gone by the time I stood any chance of getting served. But I remember the Sherwood Forest scene from endless laps around Freshney Place as a spotty teenager.

When I was a student (the long hot summer of 1976) I worked at Northray-getting there on the Northray bus. In honour of this journey there was a Northray pub crawl which followed part of the route. A half in each of the following pubs meant you'd passed the test.
Started in the Cross Keys on Cleethorpes High Street then:-
Darleys
The Imperial
The Clee Park
The Humber
The Albion
Cottees
The Kent Arms
The White Knight
The White Bear
The Corporation
Cairns
The pub close to Wellington St corner- still there forgot its name
The Wellington Arms
The Oilmillers Arms
and finishing in The Duke of Wellington where you had to have a pint of mild (a.k.a slops)
All of those pubs are long gone except some on Freeman St and the Duke.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.
