Yes, 4 years early.  Players do not stay as long as they used to and I would happily pay to watch a testimonial for him. Given that this will probably be his last club in full time football, it would be a nice gesture.

'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied

Same to be honest I know that its meant to be 10 years but all that time in Tin Pot needs recognising and rewarding especially when that league is usually a league of one year contracts and journeymen.

Not sure it is possible?

IIRC the concept of a testimonial is governed by the Inland Revenue & not something you can just do if you feel like it. I could be wrong

The easy answer to this is don't call it a testimonial.
'Benefit Match' or 'Challenge Game' would suffice.

Not looked it up but find that very hard to believe.

I could understand they have to be involved to get their pound of flesh.  But surely you don't have to get approval from them to effectively give an employee a bonus ???

I don't think it's about tax (or money) though. It's about celebrating a fantastic servant to GTFC... Besides if I was him, I'd rather have 75 or whatever percent of something than 100% of sod all.

The concept of a testimonial was as a thank you for 10 years service, it was permissible under FL and IR rules.

You cannot give a player a bonus unless it is written into his contract. That is were you potentially get done for illegal/underhand payments, costing points and sometimes relegation
