My source has told me that a potential new signing has been at the ground today.

He's also quite certain it was Bogle.

I have also had this info from a usually very reliable source! Not sure if he's signed or been for talks but certainly been spotted...not in Milfields or a Petrol Station before the usual nonsense starts UTM

If it is him Hurst did say he was hoping to show him around. Doesn't mean he will sign but I bloody hope so

Source now saying it was definitely him at the ground and from what others have heard, its quite certain.

My source is starting to come good now as that's two bits of info (Pearson and hopefully Bogle)

Could just be a look around like someone said, but hopefully Hurst has managed to nail the signing.

From another source, apparently its a done deal.

Minimum a 2 year deal but potentially might be 3.

Delighted if its true.

Gateshead have signed his twin brother Omer Bogle.

(Didn't Woods once sign the wrong player by mistake, or is that an urban myth?)

Apparently Omar al Bashir landed at Humberside Airport this afternoon and demanded political asylum.  Taxi driver got confused, thought he was Omar Bogle and drove him to Blundell Park.  To avoid embarrassment, he's just gone along with it and had his picture taken with a shirt saying 'Omar' on the back.

What an ace day. Travelled all the way up Kintyre to Benderloch near Oban, logged into the fishy to this great signing. If Carlberg did fantastic days.............

Hurst is a sly one and if they spent the money the fans raised on this, then it was all worth it.

He better be good after all this.

Can't argue with his pedigree. Scored 1 more than Southwell and 6 more than Andy Cook. Let's hope he can adapt quickly and be as good as those two.

He seems to have a bit raw ability than the both of them and pace to burn.

I've not been this excited by a Grimsby signing in years, well done to all involved. I would say though, lets give him chance to adapt to the step up and not instantly expect a world beater. Though I have a strong feeling this may be a Jamie Vardy esque investment for the club.

Brilliant signing and gone £35 on Town to win the league as a result! Surely Palmer will be convinced now and think the two of them along with Pittman will be frightening to the rest of the league.

For someone who gets criticised for being dull and negative, Hurst obviously does a good job of selling the club and his "project" behind closed doors. Getting nearly all the players he wanted to keep to stay, and getting a player to sign for us who had other offers including from the FL.

Great signing, but let's give the guy chance to adjust to coming to a new club, new area and  stepping up from part-time to full-time in a new league. Remember it took Hearn 10 games to get his first goal.

How long are we giving it before someone shouts out something about them owning 0.33% of him and they expect more?

On paper he's a great addition and I'm really looking forward to this season now.

We can now field a team and subs and a pretty decent one at that.

Macca

Four from Robertson, Gowling, Toto, Pearson and East

Four from Brown, Disley, Clay, Arnold and Makreth

JPP and Bogle

+ 3 youths.

Probably just need 2 more strikers, a winger and one more defender and job done.

Great to be at this stage by mid June.

Now let's pray for no pre season injuries.

Great signing, the season ticket sales will surely rise after this,

Plus Paul might need us to put a bit more money into the promotion fund,

I would think he has spent a good amount of it to get Omar,

This will be our season.

There are two good things about this signing - 1) Bogle is a decent player with a good record chased by several other teams and 2) it sends a message to other sides that we ain't messing around this year.

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”

You've got to love the way Hurst in his interview (ii) on the OS totally dismissed that Bogle was close to signing. i love the way he keeps his cards to his chest. keeps us all guessing!!! Great management, great signing. COME ON TOWN

My mate Nathan Jarman, who has played against bogle a few times has said we have got a right player in bogle, scored 7 times in 2 years against ferriby, good to hear feedback from someone who actually seen him play

your mate Nathan Jarman is a douche bag who looks like a butch lezza.

Sounds genuine
Great signing

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Absolutely buzzing he's signed, surprised we captured him.

Marcus Bignot on Radio Humberside again tonight @ 44 minutes >> http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02st7g8#auto

He says:  "Omar could of got better deals elsewhere! It was purely a football decision."
Quoted from Les Brechin
I can't believe he hasn't got his own wiki page.

Who's going to make one then?
Wikipedia Football Admins are pretty strict on football player profiles, they have to have enough notability, if they played at League 2 or above, then they get accepted straight away.  I struggled with Andy Cooks, but I wrote virtually everything on his page including about 40 citation sources and managed to get it accepted, it gets voted on.  Same for Liam Hearn.

Having an England C cap may help go towards it.

Read here >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(sports)#Association_football

Association football (soccer) figures are presumed notable if they meet the following:
  • Players who have played in, and managers who have managed in any Tier 1 International Match, as defined by FIFA,[6] (including the Olympics) are notable. The notability of these is accepted as they would have received significant coverage as outlined above in the general notability criteria.

  • Players who have played, and managers who have managed in a fully professional league, will generally be regarded as notable. See a list of fully professional leagues kept by WikiProject Football.
Note: For the purposes of this guideline, a player has appeared in a match if he or she was in the starting line-up or came on as a substitute. Youth players are not notable unless they satisfy one of the statements above, or if they can be shown to meet the wider requirements of WP:GNG.

Just remember Omar isn't the finished article.

Hearn had more games (& years) under his belt so please don't expect miracles overnight.

I sincerely hope there is another decent experienced striker signed to take some of the pressure off the kid. Get him fit and over the term of his deal he may well develop into the hero we all want

Gateshead have signed his twin brother Omer Bogle.

(Didn't Woods once sign the wrong player by mistake, or is that an urban myth?)

That would never happen under Hurst. 'He is literate and can use a computer.'

Agree with coxy. No pressure for bogle 1st season, for me like he said we've kept a large majority of 1st teamers so I expect us not to have to gel so much as other teams so should really get going from the 1st whistle of the 1st game. Our Keeper, whole midfield and majority of the defence will be exactly how we finished last year.
I'm confident.

If we can push the boat out and get one or too more quality forwards then I'd tip us for the league. I think we can all agree on one thing irrespective of people's opinions on players. We just lacked that cutting edge upfront. I'd say our defence and keeper are excellent for this level and our midfield is above average. Just one or two tweaks and we're there! UTM

As others have said, he's making a step up so let's not put pressure on him but even so, this signing is a real statement of intent.

Sensational. Really have to hand it to the club - they've exceeded all our expectations so far retaining so many well liked players, and now making some great signings.

I haven't felt so positive about the situation with the club in quite a few years - I literally cannot wait for the new season!

If ,  as Omar said in his interview , he didn't realise the ground was this big , and
how impressed he was... he's gonna love it with a few thousand of the Black and White Army
bellocking down his whattle and singin his name....

Got this silly internal feeling about the new season... is it August 8th yet ????

I am really pleased by the intent shown but GTFC and PH - offering a 3 year deal to this lad is fantastic intent - I don't remember when we last had this level of anticipation for a new season! This plus Danny East looks like really good business. The best thing though is we are not d=creating a new team - these new boys will have to show what they have to get in the team - they have not got a walk up start!

UTM - bring it on!

Its hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them!
Brisbane - beautiful one day and perfect the next! UTM!!!

Think Tom Elliot (former Cambridge striker) could be the perfect partner for Omar! 2 big strong strikers up front with pace, could cause real problems!

I'd be gobsmacked if it was anything near that!!!

The lad is 21(?), out of contract, playing part time for a conference north club who will have offered him a new deal on what £300pw tops? They have had him there for 2 or 3 seasons so not since he was a 10 year old.
£10-15k tops would be my guess plus a sell on clause

I mean the good thing about Town is we have goal scorers all over the pitch. They can concentrate on Omar all they want but it doesn't stop the rest from scoring.

Good point. It only takes one decent signing to start a chain reaction.  Other players on Hurts's radar will be looking at GTFC, Bogle's arrival, retention of 10 from 12 and the other various tectonic events such as Operation Promotion, Mullens money and Wembley performance and we have a level of notoriety not seen since 98.  It will give potential targets something to chew on when they come to make decisions and should make Hurst's job a little easier.

The main thing we lacked last season was an out and out goal scorer,

Now we have one in Omar,

I expect Clay to improve this season and be that midfielder some of us think he could be,

Another good striker and maybe another winger and we are there.

Obviously we hope he'll make the step up like Hearn did and bang goals in for fun.

But it's worth remembering that Richard Brodie once scored 34 goals in the conference. So Bogle's goals record doesn't automatically mean he'll replicate it here.

I do think he will be a success here but it's not a foregone conclusion that he will be. Let's give him the same patient support that we gave Hearn when it took him until his 10th game to get his first goal.

I think that Bogle has taken some very good advice in furthering his career in coming to us.

I would imagine that it would have been very easy for him to have found a football league club. But in coming to Town he makes sound progress and manages his advance through the various playing levels, with every chance that he will be with us in the football league in the 2016/17 season.

Brodie was 22 when he scored 34 in a season for York.

Not every player improves year on year.

I think Brodie and Bogle seem different characters but just making the point that it's not a given that's all.

Fan worship is good, and can create atmosphere for the players, but remember the other squad players and share the love !

It will be a team effort to gain promotion, as good as Bogle could be with a good start, and no injuries sustained.

Who is to say that one of the next two or three signings won't be as adored without actually doing anything on the field yet?

What we have currently bought is his potential and his desire to rise up the ranks - I don't care if he is transferred further up as long as he and all of the others have got us into the league.

In truth would have thought he may of signed for a league side so a massive coup for us.Hurst persona may have had something to do with it as well eg Toto said the same thing as well.Gets on well with him which made him more likely to resign  which makes life a lot easier for all of us as fans eg having a manager that the players like

Looks an impressive signing for you on paper. Nearly 30 goals in a season shows he has something about him and will only get better at 22. Is this to replace John-Lewis? Or will you be bringing another one in?

Quoted from Tamworth Herald | Posted on 25th December 2014
Former Birmingham City striker is the 'best striker in non-league' says ex-Lambs coach Byfield

Darren Byfield, player-coach at Solihull said: "Omar is not only our top scorer, he's the best player in the league – and not only that, I would say he's the best player in the league above. He's that good.

"He will play in the Football League and that's a fact. When I say that to people, they look at me and say 'he's playing Conference North' but you just wait and see.

"He's only 21 but he's got everything – he can dribble, hold the ball up, scores headers, scores with his right foot, scores with his left foot. He's got it all.

"Omar's still young so of course I try to help him out when I can but I went up to him the other day and said 'there isn't anything I can say to you, there are just no faults at the moment'.

"He's young but he's such a humble guy and wants to learn and in Marcus Bignot he has a manager who believes in him and lets him express himself."

Marcus Bignot seems to have been a major positive influence on Omar in his career, he's sounded a thoroughly decent and professional manager throughout, nice to see a good guy in the game.

If that's true then we have a player on our hands. Hopefully, because of the 3 year deal, he can fire us to promotion and we can sell him Derby for 300k next season.

This may have been reported elsewhere but if so I have missed it - On the new Thecodpod podcast about GTFC Tom Farmery who is a Digital sports reporter for London Evening Standard says the fee for Bogle was £50,000 with undisclosed add ons.  He got this info off Marcus Bignot directly.

The podcast is here:

I think you need to spend on a quality striker to get out this league! Look at Tubbs, Hearn (if he'd stayed fit), Vardy, Akinde. £50,000 will look like an absolute steal if he bangs in 25 goals and gets us promoted.

It's proven that strikers in our league that bang goals in can turn a club a very good profit.

Equally so there's evidence that a big money spend doesn't always work out.  Brodie for £250,000 for example.

The price tag is totally irrelevant for Bogle now.  £50,000, £5,000, £5,000,000.  What matters is that he's a Town player stepping up from the league below with a lot of expectation and hopes placed firmly on his shoulders.

The last thing he needs is the weight of a price-tag around his neck.   Personally I think he'll be a roaring success but it's vital the fans give him time to make the step-up if he doesn't hit the floor running.  Hearn took something like 10 games to score his first goal.

The big question then, is Ascend Tom Farmery? The mystery evolves.

Very good point. It took him a while to settle, but once he broke his duck he was away.

That 5-2 win over Alfreton, where he scored 4, was the Hearn we were all hoping to see. I think Bogle might be similar. He's making the move back to full time football, living in a new area and playing with different players from those he had around him for a few years at Solihull.

I'm sure he'll be made to feel welcome off the pitch, so hopefully he can do what he does best on it.

I'm all for giving him time but if he hasn't hit the net in 5 games I hope Hurst has the bottle to put him on the bench and give Amond a run. I am assuming of course that Hurst is going to sign a big lump of a striker and hoof the ball up to him in the air so both he and Bogle are going to be automatic picks while Padraig who has scored goals at two levels higher than Bogle will fill Hannah's role  - all so predictable Hope I'm wrong

I actually think it'll be Bogle and Amond as the pairing.  The physical signing as an alternative.  Pittman would be a shoe-in to start most weeks if he wasn't so delicate, hell of an impact player to have on the bench.

If Bogle hasn't scored in the first five but has made 10 assists, would you still want him benching?    Even though Bogle comes here with a reputation (from lower leagues) as a goal machine, Hurst has never set his sides up to be reliant on one-man getting all the goals. I don't expect that to change next season.  Obviously you don't spend that money and not expect a guy to score goals, but I would guess the expectation is for him to be more of a team player than he perhaps has been used to at Solihull.

I wonder what would have happened if we'd benched Liam Hearn after his first 5 games!

As has been noted in the past, Bogle isn't exactly a powderpuff player. Pretty sure I read somewhere that he was 6'2" and he looks meaty enough to hold his own. Perhaps he will be the more physical of our strikers?

So that's why we get so many injuries pre-season!
