Yet another goal to head the pre-season goal scoring chart.

At last, a hero to hold the torch for the team up front!

A challenge for Pittman, Hannah, Arnold and A. N. OTHER - SIGNING to aspire to in the next run of games - the gauntlet has been laid down to attempt to remove him from the main striker role this season - let his knockers remain silent until others can begin to challenge his goal tally thus far !

Likewise McLaughlin, scorned as lightweight when playing on the left wing or full back last season, doing a job for the team - now popping a couple in during pre-season to give Hurst more food for thought!

Is Disley's place 100% safe if he doesn't fire on all cylinders right from the start of the season ?

Should anyone's place be safe?

No ! Places by merit on CURRENT performance, please!

Perhaps a smidge dramatic there but can only be a good thing for the lad's confidence.

HEE HEE !

TAKEN EXACTLY AS I HOPED, BUT WHY NOT GIVE HIM A BIT OF PRAISE TONIGHT - HE'S TOOK ENOUGH RUBBISH ON HERE, EVEN WITH 100% EFFORT, SO LET'S START AFRESH WITH ALL OF THE SQUAD THIS SEASON  - CLEAN SLATE, AND EVERYONE WITH AN EQUAL CHANCE TO SHINE!

He has done well this pre-season. But, I'm not getting my hopes up just yet about him, he had a good pre-season last year and then didn't score many. So, I'll wait until some league games have been played first

So he scored again last night, but how many sitters did he miss?

Great example of scapegoating, harassing, and generally being a negative boring individual towards one of our players who always tries 100 percent. Well done.

Are you going to be on our players backs all season, or just pre season?

He's never going to be a natural finisher but hopefully with some good service he can get around the 15 mark for the season. I still think we need another striker in as well though, 3 isn't enough.

L J-L's training should be all about target practice - he is already getting into good positions, or he wouldn't miss the amount of sitters he is criticised for on here.

That's why we need a coach with experience with strikers - (Hannah would also benefit with his offside running problems) - to see the frailties and set up a training regime to maximise the accuracy that has been missing from his game - it's a shame that there isn't a sniper sighting lens kit he can wear and shoot when the goal is in his equipment sights !!

Buckley made Tony Rees a huge provider with the ability to really accurately lay off the ball to set up others - could he be the man to sort out our strikers??

i think sometimes, people forget we are not watching the World Cup anymore, and our strikers and non-league quality and don't score with every shot they have.

Saying that, LJL has now scored 3 in 5 pre-season games ? might be wrong, which is brilliant.

i think if Paddy is going to play on the wing, it must be the right side, the way he simply cut in and banged it top corner really was top quality.

Paddy is all left foot which is why he naturally cut in to get onto his left to score with a great shot. The way he is playing at the moment he must be knocking on the door for a starting place. However I cannot see Paul putting Disley on the bench unless he is not 100% fit. But then again the infamous 433 might get a run out in which case Paddy is in.

Whilst LJL wasn't really able to finish and couldn't really find the goal last season, it was impossible to deny his determination and strength up front, and he always looked like he was putting in 110%. I really hope he can put some goals away this season!

I have said since Lenny arrived at BP, he is NOT NOW, NOR WILL EVER BE A STRIKER.  His best position would be a holding midfielder. The sooner Hurst recognizes this, the better the club will be.  I am fed up of watching mediocre football that is put out week in week out under Hursts tenor.

It speaks volumes whilst other strikers will not sign for the club, because they know, week in, week out, they will not get a game, as one day, Lenny and Hannah, MIGHT  come good.

If you are known for missing chances at this level (when all strikers do), over a whole season, then you are unlikely to improve your goal-scoring record in the long-term.

Based on his ability to hold up the ball, and play to others in the game

But a holding midfielder isnt generally expected to hold the ball up are they?

Positioning, awareness, mobility, passing, tackling and concentration I would argue are your more likely aspects of a good holidng mid.

LJL has some of these, but I doubt that his positioning, awareness and tackling (probably passing too) are good enough for him to play in a role that demands him to spot dangers rather than win flick ons.

Out of interest, if that was his best position do you not think a manager or coach at his previous clubs would have noticed it?

But it's a completely different position and not one where you hold the ball up particularly. Generally he plays with his back to the goal but you wouldn't want your holding midfielder to be playing that way. They bring players into the game differently as well. I don't think there is any evidence from LJL that suggests he should be playing in a holding midfield position.

  THIS
Agree that the likelihood of Lenny becoming a goal scorer is extremely remote . But a holding midfielder ? that was a joke wasnt it ?

My only concern with playing JLL (sic) as a holding midfielder is that the transfer deadline isn't for another month.

exactly, didnt gary lineker make a decent living from doing just that, oh and the record world cup scorer miroslav klose, viewing his scoring records show that all his goals were scored from inside the 18 yard box, most of which were tap in distance, so is ljl another lineker lol, probably not but agree he does get in some good positions.

Lennell is now the non league Pele

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly
