Likewise, I hope YOU have good season and go up but via play-offs, we'll win the league.

Going by the teams we have played so far and looking at the results have so far, yeh I believe we can, don't see why not.

We are 10 games unbeaten, won 5, drew 5 (6 all season), conceded 4 (7 all season), scored 16 (18 all season), 7 clean sheets (all season too). 11 diferent goal scorers, which means we don't rely on just one player. We are hard to beat as proven, just losing one in 12. We are still in a reachable possition from the top.
Why can't we win the league?

Well according to the stats only three teams can win this league interesting thread we had a few weeks back http://the-exiles.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26633&p=250038#p250038 and sorry Grimsby cant
It would be interesting if the stats was right ,we haven't lost to any of the top teams and have now played them all. that said I still think it will be Forest Green that take the top spot and any of the others in the play offs

Every year it seems the BSP fabricate a team that will romp the league Crawley,Fleetwood and now FGR.Yes both Crawley and Fleetwood was goo sides in their own right (bully by tactics, seemed to get all the decisions and had goalscorers). As for Forest Green they just dont seem ruthless enough they didn't look a good side like York did here last yr and the squad they have doesnt have any stand out players like the teams mentioned above had. This season its wide open and will be fought out until the final games of the season.Hopefully we will be there UTMM

Give it till Christmas time, then make a predicition, what's to say someone won't run away with it and start creating a gap then? It's too tight and too early

The NLP last week included Town in the 4 teams that could win it.
We have played the top 6 by next Sat so our results are skewed.
I have just posted a comment on the "positives thread". This covered a few points. I rate FGR as our main challenges.
Stats should be treated with caution. Teams have great runs at the end of the season (Crew last season) that distort statistical planning models. The Titanic was regarded as "unsinkable"allegedly. This statement was widely reported but not confirmed. However, statistically whether this was true or not, it did not complete its maiden voyage.

Impressive statistic to have only lost 1 away league game and only lost 4 home games so far this year (2012). Makes me proud to be a mariners fan, to have only lost 5 league games all YEAR amazing. Fleetwood away 2-1, 06/03/2012. York home 2-3, 13/03/2012. Kidderminster home 1-2, 31/03/2012. Southport home 0-1, 28/04/2012. Stcokport home 1-2, 11/08/2012. That's out of 33 league games this year so far, for those who maybe wondering. If we can go almost a whole year with just 5 lost, then we can go a whole season with 5 or less lost. UTM!

As TownSNAFU5 said though, stats can be misleading. If we'd lost at Barrow but won at Kidderminster we'd be a point better off (ie. draws are sometimes overrated).
Points per game are a much more relevant stat than games lost.

Town can win the league because we are so hard to beat at the moment. Its been a long long time since I have seen a Town side so organised when they don't have the ball. If we can get Hearn back firing in the new year I would be even more confident.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

For a start those 3 you listed were only 90% of what could be champions so you were skewing the stats to make them look more favourable in your favour. Who says we arn't the 10% that have gone on to win it? Also listing the stats for teams played in the top 6 you had us down as winning one and losing one. After 10 games we had played 3 of the top 6 and won 2 and drew one, so you got that wrong too. You also had Wrexham as playing 5 of the top 6 and not losing when in fact they had only played 4 of the top 6 and not lost. After that I got fed up of looking for mistakes. If you gonna use stats to try and show things a certain way (which is what stats are for) at least get them right.

I'd probably take them into more serious consideration if you could get the statistics right. Which top 6 have we lost to? And we've played more than 2 as well. We've won the two at home and drawn the two away that we've had against top 6 opposition, which in my opinion is pretty damn good! Only conceding once in four games.

Well according to NLP now with 18 games gone there are two to go for the stats to be strictly true, of those two games: FGR will not be champs if they lose 1 of next 2 games. Wrectum need to win 2 of next 3 to meet the stats. NCFC need to at least NOT LOSE one of next two and we meet the stats. I know stats are there to be broken and someone could go on a wild wild run etc. but 12 seasons teach us something. So going on the last 12 years stats only Newport FGR OR Wrectum can win the league sorry guys but then again you could re write the record books Its a funny season so far we slip up then like saturday others around us fail to capitalises Anyway looking forward to the return game with you
