Having read that Garath McCleary has been earning £4k a week at Forest and Alejandro Faurlin £3k when he starred in QPR's Championship-winning side, I got to wondering what Liam Hearn and other 'big earners' at Town are really worth?

'worth' and 'earn' are totally different things. I'd guess Hearn is on £700 to £800 a week at Town.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

But the guys at forest will also get various bonuses which in turn will boost their weekly wage.

Jesus I'd play football for £300 a week!

I suppose it's more of what payment is not declared . If a club states that their wage bill is £ XXX , we all assume it's correct . However some of these players wouldn't be playing for these clubs , in front of a few hundred fans just for the love of the game .  Secrect , or unofficial payments go on all the time , it's a matter of not getting caught , or paying your dog , alledgely !

We all know iffy payments go on but then it would unfair to not acknowledge those players who do take an honest salary and do genuinely enjoy playing the game.

Footballers at all 5 pro levels are over paid...in terms of hours they work they would be hard pushed to be classed as full time yet they all get full time wages...

Agree with what you say . It's that old saying  " If they were in the real world " On another note ,  just how many of these over paid super stars !! Would be prepared to play for pleasure in the lower leagues eg , Gary Birtles a true gent .

I suppose time will tell how many actually enjoy and want to play when they reach the twilight of their career. Many will be financially safe so money will be no object so maybe the odd one will filter down...male masturbators like Rooney, terry etc won't though...

McCleary was on fairly low (relative to Miller, Greening, Derbyshire, Camp, Blackstock, Reid, Gunter etc.. who are on obscene money of between £10k and £20k per week) wages at Forest because he was bought for £20k from Bromley, was not a first team regular and had spells of injury. It has only been the last few months (literally since February) that he has played out of his skin and now looks a decent prospect and has turned down a new contract on £8k per week. He will sign for Reading now and pick up a rumoured £15k a week which you can't blame the lad for as had he not had such a good run in he'd probably have been retained at Forest for less than his current pay.

I'd say if Hearn went to a Championship side such as Posh for arguments sake he's probably be on £2k-5k as it is a risk as he has never proved himself at such a high level. He's probably be on a decent bonus per goal though.

Seem to remember Elding saying the 2 game ban following the Lincoln game cost him £600 so he must have been on £300 a game, plus goals plus salary.

Town players don't get bonuses per goal, only bonuses when they hit milestones in terms of goals scored.
