Chuckie Egg on the Speccy was brill. Aliens on the C64, Double Dragon on the Atari ST, Maio Cart on the Snes, and probably PES on the PC.

Nowadays all games are the feckin same. Updates of Doom. Same thing every time, just different guns and backgrounds.

Anyone remember the original Atari consoles?
My favourite game was the one where a square fired a smaller square at another square, which exploded into squares. State of the art they were.

Also can remember spending at least 5 weeks copying code for Speccy games out of magazines and then the flipping things wouldn't work.

Combat was a cracking game on the Atari, very basic but it was two player so you could shoot your mates, brother, sister, dad whoever.....and if you could master swerving the shot or drive into the wall and reappear on the other side of the maze !!

I had an intellivison console rather than an atari, cracking graphics for the day and a disc control rather than a joystick.

One thing I'll say is that at least the game writers were forced to be more imaginative than they are now.

Re Mortal Kombat

How did I forget that, was briliant at that game on the Snes. Street Fighter was just a button-mashing fest but with MK you had to think. And you could do fatalities and babalities! What more do you want.
Rayden Vs Lu Kang fights were the best. "Wa-daaah!"

Can't believe Goldeneye or Super Mario 64 haven't been mentioned yet. Brilliant games. Really enjoy the Assassin's Creed games, haven't started the latest one yet though as I know it would interrupt my studies. Finished Batman: Arkham City which was a brilliant game. Can only play Fifa if amongst a group of friends so don't really get that much game time out of it. Probably get the most playing time out of Football Manager, think the latest one is brilliant.

lol that was ace! The only way to do it was to go round reeeeally fecking slowly, but you'd still win doing that as the other player would be constantly falling off the track.

Ghost island was the best track. You could rip round that and there was a cheat jump bit in it.

And spending about 3 hours typing out a computer programme for a crappy basic game only for it not to work because you got a comma or full stop in the wrong place.

Sensible Soccer was such a basic looking game but so addictive, spent hours and hours of my youth playing this game.

another arcade classic now i have thought on a bit...Track and Field....they used to have it in the chippie at Top Shops which ate more than its fair share of my paper round wages.
There was a simple pleasure in seeing your name as the world record holder.

and now i spend my time trying to get my missus to let me play "track and field"............on her "man in the boat"

Track and Field was ace. Having to whack intercourse out of your keyboard trying to beat your personal best or look like you was having a power male masturbation with the joystick.

Metal gear solid for the ps1 was my favourite game for years, by far the best game on PS1 imo.
Road trip adventure for the ps2 was also a great game, what wasn't to like about a game where you play as a car and go on an adventure to become the champion car in a land where only cars exist where you can race and play football?

The weightlifting was the best. You used to have a good excuse as to why you were smacking intercourse out of the buttons for that one.

Always loved the 100 m sprint. The techniques used in the arcades were astounding, me and my mate settled on laying a folded hanky over the two buttons and very quickly sliding our clenched fist back and forth over the buttons. Blisters still ensued

Small block of wood drilled out to a template that fitted over the button set up, about 7mm thick, this minimised drag between the button gaps and increased efficiency of button activation. Sweat band wrapped around clenched fist and hey presto...World Records in the bag !!!
