Kinda pins a lot of blame for bad behaviour and drinking on Newell and looking up to some of those players as a kid but he was 20 by the time he came in and already known for some wild nights at Gullies with Atkinson and Jarmo where they regularly got hammered lol. Pretty sure the running down the street naked at a house party thing my cousin told me about was also pre Newell. Sounds like the drinking and lout culture continued in Ireland by his own admission so I dunno how the article is spinning it like Ireland saved him from following all the baddies.
