I might go in my car: the state of it, the travellers will probably leave me a better one in sympathy.

flipping illegitimates do actually get everywhere...i'd certainly be worried if i lived on bolingbrooke road (sp?)...watch the lead on your roofs. i am sure there will be an abundance of shed break ins, vandalised cars and scruffy women flogging lavender and pegs...oh and an influx of scunts shirts

I wonder if their children will attend local schools and if so, I wonder if the teachers will discriminate against them, hold stereotypical views etc.  (My Mum used to work with gypsy children sometimes - had some interesting stories to tell, most of them quite positive).

indeed we do hold those sterotypical views, however all of the traveller's ive had the pleasure of teaching in the PRU i work in have all been light fingered little buggers, however one plus point they do have is that if you threaten a traveller kid with a phone call to mum they excrement themselves...they are a very matriarchal society

Nice.  I expect there are some gypsy children who aren't sent to pupil referral units though.

indeed..but because of their different way of life they are usually deemed different to everyone else, especially by their peers.

they often want a good education for their children but because of the nature of the way the live their eduction oftn suffers and becomes fragmented. a shame really because many are very good in practical subject (not stereotyping, evidence proves this) and they often do an excellent job and are perfectionists.

however, all this and many more positives aside, they will always be looked down upon in society for reasons such as just driving up onto a car park and staying, no bills etc...people don't see it as fair and right

But doesn't it get fragmented when they are allowed to twag school to go scrap and lead collecting? And don't tell me they aren't, my wife works with some and they are always off.

Now I wonder why that could be? The above? The amount of filth they leave behind for others to clear up, and still others to pay for? The thefts and such that go on while they are there?
LOL

I do feel for "genuine" travelling folk.  The ones that just didn't want to be part of a "rat race".  Some of whom are prepared to work hard doing odd jobbs etc to earn a living.  However, they have unfortunately been taken over by a larger bunch of people. Those that genuinely don't give a s1t, and claim to be "gypsy folk" in order to milk society. Like everything else in society it is a shame when the good groups of people with genuine beliefs and interests,  get hi-jacked by low life which ruins it for all concerned.

i agree civvy but as you have said, theres always someone that comes along and spoils it. yes i have worked with alot of traveller kids that 'twag' school, however that is the governments fault, schools legally have to keep the place open for a traveller even if they disappear for 2 years...yes schools could close the place but they simply aren't allowed.

i agree, one particular traveller i worked with was that light fingered he had even cut the bottom out of his pockets and sewn them up around his knees so he could get more in the pockets...the same kid also tried to to climb up the cathederal when we visited because of the lead on the roofs and windows etc.

however, civvy is right, there are alot of 'traveller's ' that take the urine and flaunt that way of life, just to 'intercourse' the state as it were which then gives them all a bad name...similar to extremist muslims/christians etc

that reply made me proper chuckle...there are several designated gypsy site across lincolnshire and nottinghamshire but as someone stated earlier, the majority will go to these sites but the ones who want to flaunt the laws etc don't therefore give the bad name to the remainign travellers who use the land allocated to them
