Can't wait for Swindon away. First away game of the season for myself.
I've spoken to The Merlin pub (10 minute walk to the ground) they're welcoming away fans. They have 2 pool tables and the football on TV.

Am surprised at that. The Merlin used to be a staunch home fans pub. There’s some cracking craft beer pubs in the old town if you like that kind of thing as well

What are the reasons that we have such a large away following compared to home gates. A comparison would mean Man Utd taking 35000 to away games if space available .

Joking aside, I suspect the reasons are fairly similar.  We've got a fairly decent exile fan base, much like Man Utd!  Our figures when we play in the South East are massively boosted by any Mariners down that way, I think it's probably the same for the North West/West Yorkshire too.

There's still a brain drain in NEL in that people leave for University and generally never come back.  Whilst pretty excrement for the local economy, it helps the average away numbers.

Notts at the weekend is largely regarded as one of, if not the, best away day of the season for many.  Not too far by car and crucially one of the very few away days from Clee/GY with a direct train that drops you in very close proximity to the ground.  I think we would have to be doing very badly to get a poor following at County.
