Was it QPR? Stunning goal.

Edit: just looked it up on Soccerbase. Widdrington was subbed in the 42nd minute, with Ball getting booked - so probably was him.

I was at that game, and remember the challenge vaguely and us shouting for a red. Also one of the broadsheet press reported that we played ok and contained the hosts who were top of the table but without either quinn or Phillips, maybe without both? The writer said ball not getting a red was a turning point.

That’s it.

Think it was 2:0 with a few minutes to go and my mate’s little boy said “we’re bound to win now dad”. Half the Pontoon turned round and made the sign to ward off the evil eye.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I thought Widdrington was a very good player and wasn’t given the credit he deserved. ‘Sorting out’ the protesters didn’t help of course.
I think I must have been the only fan in history to have widdrington on my shirt (must have cost a bomb) My brother borrowed it and subsequently lost it while we were at school.  Fuming…still! I must let it go!
I also have vague memories of awards ceremony at the winter gardens in which he stepped in and saved Darren Wrack (I think)  from getting dogs abuse from a town ‘fan’ who was excrement faced.

I knew I'd seen Harry dancing with Brendan Cole.
