Mansfield appoint Nigel Clough as their new manager.

Bet he didn't come cheap, it'll be interesting to see how this one goes given the way Radford keeps throwing money at getting promotion without success.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

How can they afford him with the salary cap in place this season?

Great appointment by them to be fair. But I'd still rather have Ollie who surely is the highest profile manager, and the most successful in this division.

Richie Wellens went to Salford yesterday too, great appointment and consolidates the inevitability of their promotion either this season or next. Wellens goes down in my estimation as a result.

Whilst we probably despise the rise of Salford in all honesty it’s been a great achievement to rise through the leagues so quickly even with the enormous level of funds invested by famous five and their Asian buddy. I recall those early episodes of the documentary and it really was the equivalent of going down to Lincoln United so whatever my views they spent their money wisely and as we quickly learned getting out on non- league football is not easy whatever your budget. What annoys me is that the Neville’s in particular sat and watched Bury’s demise despite the fact their Mum worked for them for many years.

As for Wellens he briefly played for them, came through the Man Utd  youth system so is most probably returning to his roots and working for people he will have known for many years. I hope Salford struggle but inevitably with the money behind them they will be moving up rather than down in the coming seasons.

As for Mansfield a good appointment and maybe a job for my mate Gary Crosby who seems to accompany Cloughie everywhere he goes.

Why? Look at the League One table and Swindon's record of having patience with managers. He was probably a couple of weeks away from the sack at Swindon despite what he did last season. And going to Salford allows him to move back up north. Everyone's a winner.

Mansfield have lobbed money at it for years and got absolutely nowhere as a result, long may it continue

He is a good manager but not a miracle worker. He builds teams and it could be a good appointment but I wonder if the owner has enough patience to give him the time  after Mansfield’s recent failures.
