Hmmm, that does concern me too which is why I am delighted that, even though he has agreed his personal buy out amount, Fenty and the board are hanging fire on the deal until they are sure Shutes is going to put up cash to actually run the club and not just use it as a pawn in the re-generation game

One thing's for sure John Fenty hasn't sold it for £1 !

If you care to read all my posts you will see that I have criticised JF on several occasions. I have frequently said that his tenure has been a disaster, his PR is terrible, some of his statements are ludicrous and we need a new owner. What I don't understand is the constant and often repeated same arguments against him , almost as if it has to be hammered home that he is wrong time and time again. It's almost like digging up a dead horse and shooting it again just to make sure it's dead.
I make no excuse for the fact that I think his initial loans saved the club and I see nothing wrong in him wanting them back.

You have. But in defence of us horse shooters, I would say that bloody nag is alive and well sowe'll go on shooting.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Fair enough Rancido, I've no inclination to trawl back over your posts somehow just going on short-term memory.

I'd say the explanation for the repeated pointing out of Fenty's past misgivings is people are fed up and the aggrevating instances keep happening. As sure as the night turns to day, but anyway.

As for the idea Shutes could be in the mould of a Steve Dale I'd say the clue is in his heavy involvement in the Greater Grimsby project and having a passionate ambition to regenerate a place that been trodden on and left behind.

The fact he a philanthropist. Take a look back at all his previous ventures; they all positive, art inspired or charitable in nature - I don't think ransacking the local Club and leaving it up sh!t creek without a paddle would fit well with the greater project.

Everything new is a risk of course, but I would imagine a Chief Executive would be put in charge rather than Tom and maybe he could sell on for a profit one day when we a much more attractive proposition.

But Id have thought the main idea is to bring the club which central to the local community along for the ride as the area is finally brought into the 21st Century.

It appears his purpose in life is not making bucket loads of cash to hoard away, but to use his position to give back and help the deprived for the feel good factor of making a difference in the world (which I'd agree a much more fulfilling and noble life lived than empty materialism and greed).

Perhaps I've been hoodwinked and he a wolf in sheep clothing - but his actions in the past, which define him, suggest not. My gut says not.

And in any case I believe it worth the role of the dice, the leap of faith into the unknown as we well and truly stuck in the doldrums with the current regime.

Not recklessly of course, Bury the warning sign, but this appears an opportunity that could put us on the ride of our lives all being well. Sure there may be hiccups, but isn't it great to maybe finally have a positive vision for the future? Club and area.
