Not looking good for Leeds so far, Spurs take the lead at Elland Road after 2 minutes.

A game Leeds have to win to stand any chance of staying up.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I’d find it hilarious if Everton went down. I suspect they’ll just manage to escape though, they always flipping do…

They add virtually nothing the PL any more - even the Merseyside derby is dull. They need a reset in the Champ but they always get away with it.

The Leicester owner is apparently writing off £194,000,000 of debt. I wonder how much more they would have had to spend to stay up?

So after 9 year in the Prem, 9 years of incredibly lucrative TV money which must run into many many  hundred of millions, during which time you win the league, the FA Cup and enjoy Champions League football you are still a million miles away, or should I say 194 million miles away,  from any kind of break even.

Football economics are insane, just insane.

They have a lot of luck with this, Leicester. I seem to recall their stadium contractors kindly “writing off” about £30m of debt when they last ran into a bit of financial trouble.

Couldn’t care less about Leicester going down, I have a weird, irrational hatred for them and they have somehow managed to always have some sort of ‘write off’ when needed…

Leeds are their own worst enemy and in truth, I think all 3 could’ve gone…

Writing off?! I seem to remember Leicester effectively sent the contractor under and never paid a massive chunk of the building cost by going into administration.

….Poojah, you were sort of correct. I knew it was Birse from Barton who built it, and checking online it appears that administration made them write off the debt, as you say. I was in the construction industry when it happened and it was the beginning of the end for Birse.

And of course Leicester then signed Danny Coyne from us - no transfer embargo in those days.

Quite; I was being sarcastic. Apologies if that didn’t come across.

I sympathise. The one I bought last season was shop-soiled - it came with Dirty Leeds.

Indeed.

Furthermore I just looked up a couple of Leicester transfer deals. They bough Maguire for £13.7m and sold him for £87.7m; Kate for £9m and sold for him £35.8m; Drinkwater for £900k and sold him or £37.9m; and Mahrez for £500k sold him for £67.8m.  So that's £204.7m profit on four players. Add that to the £194m debt write off and they have burned through something like £400 million in recent years.

Hard to think of any other industry where a company could survive that level of overspending. But this is football. The owner will probably pump another few hundred million in to get them back in the Prem. Crazy.

I read that even though the owner wrote off 194m they still owed hundreds millions more in other debt. The super rich owner is a tad less super rich after covid too so might not be so willing to fund them tobthe same tune again

What on earth must they be spending on player wages to run at that sort of deficit given income they receive from all sources? Whatever it is, it hasn't done them much good this season.

Have a look at Mrs Vardy’s legal bills that should give you a clue, how did she make the housekeeping stretch I wonder?

Once she’s paid that tab maybe she could hire someone to learn her how to spell Rebecca?
