Yeah, boo!

Fooking new owners and their promotions, cup quarter finals, record season ticket sales and massively increased crowds.

Who do they think they are? Let's ask JF to come back.

Why does everything and everyone have to be put at one extreme or the other? Can’t people on here like 1878 but strongly disagree with their stance on a new stadium? Why does criticising something(s) that 1878 say/do have to make you a JSF fan?

Not sure he was doing that Golly…..think he was just over exaggerating the original post for comic effect. Not sure if the original post was a complaint or an observation, but it did read a bit stroppy, so think Ginny was just parodying that. Ironically, your complaint about complaining is a neat icing on the cake.

I think you just listed the reasons why we do need more capacity but seem incensed whenever it is suggested. Odd.

Well let's see what happens next season....we have just had  one very successful promotion season followed up by a largely average, sometimes dire league season but boosted with a cup run.

From the owners perspective ....How many games have completely sold out in that time ?  Genuine question.
We have been back to 5k home gates as well on a few occasions so again why from an owners perspective would we build a bigger stadium or invest in additional now ?

Season ticket sales will probably hold up pretty well if they get them on sale early enough but a non spectacular start to the season or even an uninspiring close season will see demand drop on the day.

The STH release scheme clearly isn't working so needs a rethink maybe a  better incentive which would again release maybe another 500 prime seats a game.

Sell restricted seats little cheaper once all prime seats have been taken up.

Still early days.

Aye, gone nowhere…

Unless we have a barnstormer of a season next year I can’t see it being an issue. I Don’t know if anyone who’s not been able to get a ticket for a game this year, home or away, they’ve always managed.

Remember when everyone excrement a brick in the summer about away tickets, and yet we’ve barely had an issue other than the actual system being shite.

Personally I’m going to the Pool game, but not expecting a good view.

I would probably have gone to more games if I could get better views and covered seating with two seats together. The question is how much would this cost the club and what other costs have a higher priority than better seating? There are quite a few obvious places where more seating could be introduced but I expect there are reasons why the Board have decided not to make that choice.

I think a lot of us oldies did not know how to make our STH seats available through the website and find the phoning in office hours a faff.  I found out by accident when I went to check my account. Perhaps a simple reminder from the club via OS, Twitter and FB would release a few more?

Fans in my area of The Upper have swapped phone numbers etc. but too often seats go empty.

Im ambivalent to a new stadium on a personal level. I understand it’s probably needed loving forward but with a plethora of teams around losing money, the building industry seeing sky high prices and the likes, clubs going under…I’m happy for us to sit tight. Of course we wanna increase income stream but it wouldn’t be enough to cover the burden, not yet anyway.

I’ve a season ticket so the seat issue doesn’t affect me. There are reasons why people buy one and reason why they don’t. That’s a personal thing and I get that, but I do wonder if this issue of not being able to get a seat is a minute issue in the grand schemes of GTFC.

If anyone thinks that the owners haven’t thought about it then you’d have to be on glue, the clearly have but they’re also not flipping morons like the last girl private, and clearly don’t see wasting valuable club money chasing an unrealistic dream at this stage, especially when there are more pressing area in need of investment…

There have been countless examples on here where people have said they've not bothered because the couldn't get seats together with family/friends.

The problem, to me anyway, is that there's multiple interpretations of 'Sold Out'.  For some (and I suspect the club are in this bracket) it's looking round on matchday and seeing if there are any empty seats in the ground.  For others it's when there are physically no more tickets available for sale.  Then there's that version where it's case, as above, when there are some tickets available but they don't satisfy the need of the customer (single tickets dotted about and/or shocking views at the back of the Main Stand).

Until late I was of the opinion that the poor form this season would more or less negate any worry for next season.  However, the cup run has massively masked the league form (and performances).  It might not reach the sales levels of last summer but I think we'll still have a good summer of sales, which will be fuelled by optimism and probably still a legacy of fear regarding missing out on tickets for away/cup games.  For some it'll be a newly formed habit too.

I actually think we'll have a good season next year and that alone will drive demand up.  Whilst I disagree with the clubs approached and I feel it's incredibly blinkered, I can see their thinking in it to an extent.  They're absolutely damned if they do and damned if they don't.  It's sods law that they somehow increase capacity and we're then playing in front of 3,000 against Crawley on a wet Tuesday night in November.  Equally so they don't do anything and we'll never know what could be achieved.

I'm not even sure what the question is anymore so I'll be buggered if I know the solution.  But I do think a viable and attractive release scheme has to be a priority for next season, especially if ST sales get anywhere near the levels of last summer.  Even 4,000 levels and you're leaving yourself quite limited with the number of match-to-match tickets you can sell, especially if we're playing well.

To the Hartlepool game though, what a bloody achievement to be looking at such few tickets left to sell in a cost of living crisis (when lots of people are now really feeling it), for a game when we've literally nothing to play for and after a campaign that has seen us dull to watch in the league.

It should really be a big selling point for players at this level, and especially something to consider for our current squad members who might be out of contract in the summer. Last week they played in front of nearly 20k at Bradford (2.2k away), it’ll be nearly 8k on Friday, another 3k behind the goal on Monday, another 8k the following Saturday as Mansfield have sold their 1200, and you might even squeeze another 800-1000 in at Stevenage before the end of the month.

You don’t have to go too far down the pyramid to be playing in front of 1-2k every week, and a minibus load in the away end and less than 1000 a few times a season.

Absolutely!  Someone, I've forgotten who but I want to say it was Hurst, said at the Fans Forum that the club are putting together packages to sell the club to potential players.

I'm very sceptical that the traditional recruitment pitches of lower cost of living, countryside and seaside etc. will work on footballers that travel into an area and aren't likely to be here for the long term anyway.  But whilst it will always be a job to someone and a lad from Staffordshire or Teeside won't have an affinity to the club that we have, they surely can't fail to be impressed by the prospect of playing in front of full houses that, largely, are incredibly supportive.  Yeah there's the usual grumblers both at the games and on social media, but show me a club that doesn't have them.  More often than not they get drowned out.  You show a video to a potential signing of 4,000 fans singing and dancing after a 5-0 hammering plus facing a 4-5 hour journey home and they'll wonder what the hell is going on.  Then show them a video of a pretty full away end at Mansfield a matter of days later with an even better atmosphere...

I'll always remember when Liam Hearn signed and he said something along the lines of he couldn't believe how good the stadium was.  To us that was hilarious, but for a lad who was playing front of two men and a dog huddled together in a cowshed, it probably is something.  We've got significant battles in getting people here, but we've also got some potential aces up up our sleeve if we want to use them.

I will stick my neck out and give you my reasonably confident prediction of what will happen next season . We will sell 6000 plus season tickets driven in part by peoples fear of not being able to buy an acceptable seat or group of seats on a game by game basis. As a result we will have a high non attendance rate from season ticket holders of 10-15%. There will be even less opportunity for new supporters new families etc to come along on a game to game basis. In other words the current cycle will repeat . The one caveat would be a substantial price increase on season tickets would temper that and I wouldn’t rule that out.

Don’t know how to find an occasional empty seat in upper. Maybe I’ve missed something on that but would welcome more prominent advice on this for next season

I agree on the tickets fully expect us to get over 6k ,mnow a few who dont normally get one who are literally just going to  because its been such a pain to get tickets together ,and after having to sit at thr back of the main have said they will get one so they just dont have to go there again

I was just thinking about this
I dont know if it would be a viable idea (i understand regular seat holders dont want to move and thats understandable )

But i go to proberly 12 games a season (i have been releasing the seat ) and have a pretty prime view in the lower , i enjoy the banter down there its class ,even if the lad turning up in the Man u shirt still annoys me slightly .

I wouldnt be against moving to one of those more basic views in the main if it meant it freed up more space for people to sit together with a better view or for someone who would get to every game .

Maybe the club could gently nudge the irregulars with season tickets (there must be 500-1000) and people with single seats to have a particular block so it frees up more space for regulars /people who want to all sit together to be able to with a better view ?

Maybe its a bad idea ,just a thought though .

We'll only know if we try.

I suspect a large number of ST's are purchased more out of concern of securing away/cup tickets than a concern regards the view of their seat at BP.

I'd hope we're operating off better intel than 'we'll only know if we try'. Think it's definitely a possibility that scarcity has added to appeal this season and that greater availability could actually negatively impact gates.

I'd hope we're operating off better intel than 'we'll only know if we try'. Think it's definitely a possibility that scarcity has added to appeal this season and that greater availability could actually negatively impact gates.

But this is the thing, that's all we've got.  I completely agree with you by the way, we should be making decisions based on far better than effectively stabbing in the dark and gut feeling.

Here's what we know though:

  • We don't have many empty seats available on a game-to-game basis, owing to the fact that we shifted a huge number of season tickets.
  • On this forum alone people have stated they've struggled to find tickets that meet their needs (sitting with/near mates, ability to sit together as a group, choice of stand/view)
  • For a large number of our games this season we've seen incredibly limited numbers of tickets available, of those that are available they tend to be of a view that hides half the pitch and anything that's played more than 3st in the air.

So we've got a situation of limited availability and then what is available is unfit for purpose or at best a far more difficult sell.

Here's some other things we know:

  • For any game this season, there is always pockets of empty seats with big white reserved seats on them.  The attendance rate for Season Ticket holders isn't what you would want it to be.  We can pretty much interpret why this is but it's largely irrelevant, the tickets are sold.
  • Season Ticket seats that aren't going to be used are largely not released back into the ticketing system for individual purchases. This is evident by the number of available seats to buy on a game-by-game basis compared to the unoccupied ST seats.

It may well be that despite selling 5500 Season Tickets and having 2000 fans wanting to rock up every home game and buy a ticket on a game-by-game basis, we'll never equate that into 7500 home fans sat in seats every game.  Simply because 1000 of the ST holders won't turn up every game and we'll just always have that natural ceiling of 6500 home fans sat in seats.

But there's also a likelihood that there's 3000 fans wanting to rock up every home game, 500+ of which can't buy a ticket (that suits their needs) so they can't and don't come.  Unfortunately we've no real way of evidencing this other than anecdotally at this point.  Frustratingly, in this scenario, there will still be rows and clusters of empty seats with white stickers on them.

Those individual tickets and incredibly restricted view tickets are always going to be the most difficult to sell, people will only take them if they're absolutely desperate and simply can't miss a game.  But for the run of the mill league game where it's not 'must see' and the appeal of sitting isolated or with a poor view is enough to tip someone away from coming, we need to do better.

Those unoccupied Season Ticket seats need to be offered into general sale.  That way the fan who wants to attend on a game-by-game basis isn't put off by the fact he can't sit remotely near their mates, as a family or with a view that Stevie Wonder would be annoyed at.  Be it the right or wrong approach, the club need to find a way of incentivising Season Ticket holders to release their seats (providing they're resold, of course).

Otherwise we're always going to be going on conjecture.  Other than increasing capacity of the ground, this is the only real way of seeing what genuine appetite there is for games.  A decent Season Ticket release scheme will be a damn sight cheaper than building extra capacity that may/may not be used.

There's nothing to lose on this, I don't even think it's a case that those seats that are returned into general sale from Season Ticket holders will be competing against the less desirable seats.  For the game-by-game basis fan it's surely a case of Option A - Buy a ticket that is where I want it or Option B - Don't bother.  Option C - Take a excrement view miles from your mates isn't likely to be taken very often.

This pretty well sums up my approach to going to BP this season.  Results in less income for the club. Less commitment from me to come to games.

There is also circumstancsl evidence we would attract bigger home crowds if we had more capacity better seats etc
1 Crowds across all levels of football have increased substantially since the last time we were not excrement.. Using crowds in the Buckley era as a benchmark is wrong Why would Grimsby be any different
2 Look at the way attendances have responded at other clubs that have had a bit of success or put in better facilities eg Lincoln or Rotherham
3 Our away support is disproportionate to our home support .This could simply be because our home support is restricted from its natural level by our ground.

Why does everything and everyone have to be put at one extreme or the other? Can’t people on here like 1878 but strongly disagree with their stance on a new stadium? Why does criticising something(s) that 1878 say/do have to make you a JSF fan?

It was partly tongue in cheek and partly a response to the endless times this subject has been brought up, especially by Mr Josse, who seems to be unremittingly negative in many posts, often highlighting perceived problems with the ground, the owners, the manager and the team.

These topics have been asked and answered at the fans forum and in other media. You may not like the answers they have given, but they have said more than once that a new ground is not on the horizon any time soon, and extra seating has been looked at, but deemed to not be a priority just yet, with them pointing out that with an average season crowd of around 6500, there isn't the need.

I have criticised the new owners in respect of not having a clearer and better scheme for the re-allocation of prime match day tickets from non attending season ticket holders, and I think this seriously needs looking at, and could go a long way to satisfying those who complain about a lack of capacity.

Would like a new ground? Yes I would, and I don't think there are many fans who would like to see JSF back at the helm.

62 left - in the whole stadium, Hartlepool have sold the full away allocation. A crucial game for them, but fair play it’s not exactly local is it.

Mansfield have sold out the away end as well.

If we were challenging strongly these would be potential 10k crowds

I will stick my neck out and give you my reasonably confident prediction of what will happen next season . We will sell 6000 plus season tickets driven in part by peoples fear of not being able to buy an acceptable seat or group of seats on a game by game basis. As a result we will have a high non attendance rate from season ticket holders of 10-15%. There will be even less opportunity for new supporters new families etc to come along on a game to game basis. In other words the current cycle will repeat . The one caveat would be a substantial price increase on season tickets would temper that and I wouldn’t rule that out.

Well...if we sell 6000+ then there will already be new supporters as we have only got 5400 now so new supporters will have already jumped on board.
If the club do place a decent buy back scheme in place for STH's no shows,  then there would be more of those available but they can't rely on people just being benevolent regards them.

The key thing is the capacity has to be increased so we can take advantage of big crowds in big games and/or increased interest.

How the owners tackle the problem is up to them but I imagine they will go down the route of adding to Blundell Park. A new stadium seems too far too soon.

I believe there are currently around 5900 season tickets in issue including the half season tickets that went on sale around Christmas .( source Steve Wraith )

Yeah defo more than 5400, I have heard both 5700 and 5800 as figures for whole season tickets, so it's probably between those figures.

Yeah this for
- a meaningless game (for us obviously, not them)
- against a non rival team
- with us having just 4(?) home league wins all season
- often playing quite poorly
-with literally hundreds and hundreds of those sold being restricted or poor view

does make you wonder what the demand would be like if we were a good side, winning at home and challenging for promotion/playoffs, and had a new corner section that could accommodate another 700-1000 people and offer a decent view. No doubt demand has been boosted by our cup run compared to what it would be otherwise but even so.

In theory this game should be a good gauge of how mant ST holders arent turning up
-capacity 8400
-they have sold 1200
-7100 'seats sold' in the home end

So whatever is below the 8400 are  either no show st holders , seat discepancies (which many have said about with spare seats ,and no reserved stickers on them ) or faults within the ticketing qr code scanning either not being done , or just let through .

Its probably a mixture of all 3 but will be interesting to hear the announced attendance .

Also be useful to know how many ST seats were put back into the pot and how were taken up as part of resale.
