I saw earlier today the Non League are proposing a rule allowing clubs to drop injured players wages down once they have been injured for 12 weeks or more.
Rule is for the whole League but individual clubs may opt to pay over if they wish.
Club captains are rallying together to organise their objections to this.

That may bring things into line with many "normal" employees out there but considering a player is likely to be off as a result of breaking something/sustaining injury whilst at work playing a physical contact sport then seems highly unfair.

Wonder which clubs would vote yes to this ?? I can think of one that might have considered it under a previous regime.

Could be wrong but I always thought that clubs generally take out insurance that covers player injuries, so neither club or player loses out financially when they get injured (aside from having to pay the premiums)

Even if they do, the premiums must be huge. Insurance companies don't lose out so the clubs are paying for it even if it is spread over a longer period.

I can't see it getting through the courts. Expecting low paid players on short term contracts to shoulder the burden of risk for participating in a sport where injuries are part of the game Seems unfair

I know what you're saying here but nobody holds a gun to a young player's head and forces them to play. They could take a 'normal' job and have much less risk of injury and (probably) the security of full time employment. And there are no end of decent young players who made exactly that decision.

Macclesfield, who are very likely to be in the NLN next season, have announced that they will be issuing their own version of a contract which pays injured players in full for the duration of their contract. I think a few others will follow if the NL don't u-turn.

So this just pushes more talent towards the clubs that can pay people whilst they are injured.

It may well become part of contract negotiations that players will only sign if they are guaranteed to be paid should they sustain a long term injury.

That would put clubs who don't at a disadvantage, so I suspect it will be a non starter, especially now that some clubs are already declaring that they will do so, putting them in a better negotiating position for signing players.

Wonder who decides if someone is fit. Scannell for example has been  ‘ fit’ since December.
