A bit of a cliche I know, but a good battling performance from Town.
I don’t think Crocombe had more than one save to make all game but to be honest, neither did their keeper.
Their back four were brutes, Taylor gave as good as he got and then some, Lloyd was half the size of some of them but never once did he shy away from a tackle and ran his heart out for 90 minutes and a great through ball for Efete for the goal.
Back five all played well with great cover from the midfield especially Clifton.
MoM Efete for his goal

Special mention to the Sutton stewards, all polite and friendly bunch who clapped the Town fans as we were leaving!

Are we any closer to getting promoted since Hurst has been here? No

Has he been given time to achieve promotion by the chairman and fans? Yes

Hurst out

The stewards were superb. They even applauded our goal and joined us when we saluted our team. Very nice.

At times we've struggled against more physical teams but not last night, a great battling performance. A big part of that was Taylor and Green who both had brilliant games. Lloyd was also excellent and Clifton ran his socks off as always, even showing a more feisty side to his game.

Now on to Brighton!

Lloyd kept his composure for that assist.  Efete's goal wasn't that convincing, but good enough.

I don't think it's any coincidence that we were far better equipped to deal with a bunch of dirty bullies when we had Green and Taylor in the side. Taylor, in particular, turns us into a completely different proposition when he plays. He just makes it harder for defenders, he occupies them and gives other players space to play, hence McAtee is a different animal when paired with him.

If he's fit to play, I'd pick him at Brighton. He just needs to be mindful of his elbows, but I'm sure he's bright enough to play conscious of that. Almost all of the time it's six and two three's anyway.

When they came to BP I thought Sutton where average at best but physical and well organised, which appears to make you relatively competitive in this League evidently. Last night confirmed that, and I reckon our recruitment in the close season will reflect that. All that said though the lads got stuck in and took fronted up to the hosts strengths and never lost an individual battle, that must have delighted the gaffer.

It’s interesting when we pretty much had a full squad available that we stuck with 3 at the back when the view was we only adopted that formation because of personnel.

Thought we played pretty well overall and for the 2nd game in a row managed through a 1 - 0 lead effectively. The team seemed to have a strong spine last night which is generally the platform for better performances.

Away from the cup run I suspect well reflection on this season when it ends will be one of what could have been done with everyone fit?

I don’t think anyone had a bad game last night, the back 3 where solid, Clifton looked more like Green and the Taylor/Lloyd combination might just make it hard for McAtee to get in for the remainder of the season. Plaudits need to go to Michee though who had a good general game and popped up in the right place with a decent finish for his goal.

Just one moan.
Why did we play in Pink? The contrast was really poor, to say the least. The lighting was poor and the weather didn't help. Why not the Blue?
Or indeed the Stripes? Are we obliged to play the away kits whilst away?

Solid, Taylor made a huge difference.

Mention for Martin Gritton.... really good co-commentator, who say's it how it is.

Taylor, Green and Clifton made a huge difference with the physical approach they bring to the game.

But as good as Taylor was last night, there's not a cat in hells chance I would start him against Brighton.  We need mobility and energy for the majority of the game, maybe bringing him on later to bully them a little.  Fully expecting that we'll end up chasing a lot of shadows, having them pass it around us and hassling them into hopefully making a mistake.  That doesn't suit Taylor at all.  Orsi and McAtee all day long.

Was thinking this last night, we’ve had some decent results in that kit this season, haven’t we? Off the top of my head:

Rochdale - W
Newport - W
Colchester - W
Cambridge - W
Luton - D
Sutton - W

We threw away a lead at Hartlepool and the game at Carlisle was a bit of a write off after what had happened days earlier, bit we’ve generally been pretty (decent) in pink.

We’ve got to wear it in the city of the pink pound, haven’t we?

I liked the look of Smith there CM he had a good first half then faded but excellent passer of the ball I'm assuming he's a loanee?

Made me laugh when Gritton kept saying the Brighton game was on Saturday.

Michee slotted it past the keeper quite coolly. what more did you want him to do??

Yes I thought he was a cut above . He is their player played most games last season and this He is young from Beverley ex Mansfield academy so maybe one we should be looking at.

I don't think we have got a choice have we seeing as they play pretty much in blue and white stripes which rules out stripes and blue!

You could technically get away with black and white stripes. Our shirt is predominantly black whilst theirs is predominantly white, with each kit having contrasting shorts and socks. We wore black and white in that 7-1 thumping at Hillsborough all those years ago.

So yeah, with that in mind, let’s go for pink.
