The FA Cup is the oldest football competition in the world, with the first tournament taking place in 1871-72. It was founded by C. W. Alcock, who also played a key role in the development of modern football.
A total of 43 different teams have won the FA Cup. The team with the most FA Cup wins is Arsenal, who have won the competition 14 times. The other teams to have won the FA Cup more than five times are Manchester United 12, Chelsea 8, Tottenham Hotspur 8, Liverpool 7, Aston Villa 7, and Everton 5.
Brighton will be the 7th FA Cup tie of 2022-2023, but GTFC have also played 7 ties in 1888-1889, 1895-1896 and 1938-1939.
Tottenham are the only team from outside the Football League to win the FA Cup since the foundation of the league in 1888. They won the trophy in 1901 but did not join the Football League until 1908.
The last two teams Grimsby lost FA Cup ties to are Kidderminster and Dagenham.
The most FA Cup ties played by one team in a season is 12, achieved by Tottenham Hotspur in the 1972-73 season. This was due to several factors, including the number of teams in the competition that year and replays being required in each round. Tottenham played six rounds of the competition that season, with each round requiring at least one replay, and they also needed to play a two-legged semi-final. They eventually won the FA Cup, beating Norwich City 1-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Grimsby have won 5 out of 6 FA Cup ties this season, scoring 15 goals. They have only won 3 from 15 home league games, also scoring 15 goals.
The highest-scoring FA Cup final in regulation time (i.e. not counting extra time or replays) is just 7 goals. The 1890 final between Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday ended 6-1 to the Lancashire side. Blackpool also beat Bolton 4-3 in the famous 1953 “Matthews” final.
Grimsby won 4-0 away at Cleethorpes in an FA Cup match on 15/10/1887
The largest winning margin in an FA Cup final is 6-0, which has been achieved on three occasions: by Blackburn Rovers against Sheffield Wednesday in 1890, Bury against Derby County in 1903, and Manchester City against Watford in 2019.
Brighton will be Grimsby's 336th FA Cup game
The FA Cup has been won by a non-English team on one occasion. In 2001, Cardiff City, a Welsh team, reached the final of the competition but lost to Arsenal.
Grimsby failed to win a single FA Cup tie between 1968-69 and 1971-72. They made up for it in 1972-1973 though, playing 6 games.
The record for the most FA Cup wins by a player is held by Ashley Cole, who has won the trophy seven times with Arsenal and Chelsea
The record for the most goals scored by a team in a single FA Cup campaign is 27, set by Tottenham Hotspur in the 1960-61 season.
Grimsby have played 3 Premier League teams this season (including Man City U21) and beaten two of them.
Leicester have lost 4 FA Cup Finals but never won it. (*WRONG)
Bob Blamthorne scored 5 FA Cup goals for Grimsby Town on 1st Feb 1908, still a record

In the early years of the FA Cup teams played each other for a sole place in the final because if you won it the year before you got a bye straight to the final the following year

Depends how you define “biggest”. Looking at the current pyramid the highest place team to not win it is Fulham I think.

Liverpool's FA Cup win last season was actually their 8th. I am starting to wonder if you used a certain AI chatbot that has recently been in the news but only holds data up until 2021 to generate these facts Rob

Some of them I confess I did, as well as Google. My own database supplied others, and I actually did look in a physical book for one! That AI Chatbot you mention has the aura of authority but is often wrong (not just that it is out of date), I reported some of its mistakes, and missed others! I know it's only in beta at the moment, so using and reporting mistakes all helps in the name of progress

Tottenham 12 games is not the record. Bideford played 13 in 1974/5.

Cardiff (1927). I think Rob might be getting a Malbec message from getyourfacupfactsright tonight.

The fact that it was an away tie at Chelsea (0-1) would mean that if there is anyone still alive that witnessed it it's more likely that they are a Londoner than a Grimbarian.
