The Mighty Mariner stormed into a 1st leg lead (2-0) before Southampton came back (2-1) and looked to have won it by the final runner, who had to score a goal (2-2) to complete the relay. The last Southampton runner dribbled the ball slowly to the goal and struck a soft shot that was heading goalwards, only to be overtaken by the Grimsby ball (var) which had been shot harder from a greater distance and landed first in the net. Looked like the Southampton lad was easily going to get the ball over the goal line first, but our little Mariner shot a 20yd daisy cutter that just got over the line a second before the Southampton effort, fantastic. The lad deserves a bit of exposure, perhaps paraded at BP or a meet and greet with the players.

My personal favourite momment  was how stupid their fans looked climbing all over the tarpaulin as they began to realise that var might rule Walcotts goal out.
