No  mate I haven't booked in for cam belt next Wednesday.....do you think they will check timing belt at same time ?

Timing belt is a cambelt mate. They usually replace the water pump when the cambelt is out too.

That’s what I was getting at. It might have been called the other name and you just didn’t realise. It’s a lot of miles for it not to have been replaced.

Thank you for looking out for me ......told u I am a car idiot....they are doing the water pump as well comes as a kit by all accounts

Cars to me have a flappy bit at the back and a flappy bit at the front . .. . You lift the back one up to put your shopping away .....if you lift the front one it is noisey so I don't bother

Thanks everyone!
I'm thinking of holding out till the end of the year, and trade it in for a cheaper car.

I pay a ridiculous amount of money per month, on a PCP, and it's just not worth it anymore.

Would much rather pay half the price, and hopefully keep it until after the finance and not have to pay a stupid amount each month!

Just had cam belt done and the mechanic  said as far as he could tell it was the original belt and water pump on the car, so that means if it was it had done 257741 miles

Thank you everyone for the advise

Bit the bullet, bought a 66 Plate Jaguar XE.
Surprisingly, i asked Jaguar about the Cambelt and Water pump...
They said 10 years, or 105k miles on their cars

The parts aren’t that expensive - it’ll be the labour hourly rate that pushes up the price. My guess is that, for a Volvo, to change the cam belt, water pump and poss auxiliary belt and associated pulleys/tensioners, is gonna cost you maybe £300 including labour and VAT at your average ‘high street’ garage.
