Game still on at the minute. Not sure if they have undersoil heating at Wigans ground or not.

Would like to see a Wigan win to be honest.

Would like to see Wigan win this. 1. It's a new ground for me. 2. We have more chance of getting a result. 3. We will take a bigger following. 4. My knees still hurt from the seat in front of me digging into them the last time we played Luton away.

You could have tagged that onto "Luton Town or Wigan Athletic in the Cup".  It has only dropped to page two.

I'm sorry, but people starting unnecessary new threads is a pet peeve of mine.  It clutters the board.

I saw that Tom Naylor is starting for Wigan, I thought "he must be getting on a bit now" so looked him up... He's only 31, seems like an absolute age since he was here.

Not on there.
Any ideas anyone??

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

How many does Luton's away end hold again? I've only been once (2011, 1-0 loss when Kenny Arthur was fouled for their goal)

It’s a shame. Less fans to go to Luton, no McAtee for us and less chance of a win. I honestly think we had a good chance against Wigan.
On the plus side, if Pepple gets a run out we have a chance.

Luton game will be a bigger gate than it would’ve been at Wigan so a bit more money is the only positive I can take.

Wigan would’ve been better but would’ve been an empty ish stadium.

Just Google it and Wigan have a higher average! So no positives!

Who gives a toss how many Wigan fans would have been there with probably 5,000 Town crammed into one stand.

Been to Luton about 3 times.  I've never seen us win there. Remember seeing us grab a draw there about 10 years ago late on. Probably give it a miss this time round.

Having seen his debut against Crewe, and little improvement since, maybe not that, but I’m fully expecting him to come off the bench and get a scruffy late winner.

Spirit of the blitz alive and well on here tonight. Shite draw but doesn't mean there's no hope. if Wigan are so beatable and Luton are so unbeatable then how come they've scraped through in the 98th minute of a replay. Free hit to go and have a crack at them - sure everyone was saying similar when we drew Plymouth.

Some people have very short memories, remember the Plymouth game when McAtee didn’t play and Hurst was forced into playing 3 up front and we won 5-1 with 5 different players scoring and 3 of them were defenders, the FA cup produces some strange results so keep the faith. UTM

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

I don’t think it’s that. I think it’s that it means going to Luton, where not only does the spirit of the Blitz live on, it’s like a fúcking living museum.

Been to Luton about 3 times.  I've never seen us win there. Remember seeing us grab a draw there about 10 years ago late on. Probably give it a miss this time round.

I saw us win 2 0 there in 1980-81 and lose 6 0 in 1981-82. I've seen several other wins there, another defeat and a draw.

Been there with Brentford a few times including a good FA Cup win. I don't think I'll fight for a ticket for this one. I'm off to Crawley next week and that's enough. Had a right bug and still trying to properly recover.

Last time Paul Hurst managed a Town side at Luton we won, the time before the year they got out of tin pot if memory serves me right it was a draw, only one result missing from that sequence then 🤦

We have a good record there over last 30 years won as many as we have lost despite chickengate and of course the last time we played them in the FA Cup we stuffed them 7-1 all be it at home with Livvo and Jamie Forrester having a field day in the days when we where allowed to play strikers .

Booked my Doncaster to London return 10mins after final whistle.
32 notes on Trainline.
I'm a glass half empty type as I always think if you say it's half full no one will offer to top it up.
It's a giant killing on the cards without them being giants, winnable, a Kings Cross urine up and the latest possible Thameslink to Luton.
Sounds OK to me.

If I was the Luton manager I would be resting players for the Grimsby game and looking at the bigger picture of reaching the play-offs.

I thought we would get done easily by Palace, but we put up a great show with 10 men for most of the game.

You never know, but it looks a tough ask.

Wigan had no confidence at all and Luton were awful in defence, very poor game and the Wigan fans were a good bunch with lots of praise for Town fans.

What is worth noting, we could have a very different looking team in two weeks… Or not? Who knows.

Not overly fussed about no McAtee for this. Looked very ineffective with the current system, through no fault of his own.

As I’ve stated before, it’s not time for panic stations yet. However, it’s impossible to deny it’s not all a bit “meh”.

Go and enjoy one of the excellent curries on the main Rd near the ground. Sing Tommy Robinson is a male masturbator at the top of your lungs and revel at it being one of the last grounds where you go in via a gap in sone terraced houses (a la Filbert St).
Hope Hurst can find some chink in their armour and we sneak through.

I think its going to be tough. A quick look at the weekly wage bills reflect that as well .Lutons weekly wage bill is £139,640 per week and Grimsbys only is £42,530 per week.  Football by and large tends to be market forces. The best players tend to end up at the top clubs and so forth. Having said that a championship player can pick up a half decent wage . In the 2021 -22 season the average wage was £35,000 a week .

A trip to Villa would be infinitely more palatable than Luton. I expect most are feeling that this is now a crap tie because of the location more than anything else.

Plus the attendance it would have been a lot better if we got Villa and it was on tv so a good whack from the gate money and Tv .

So we will just have to beat them then get a prem side away on the tv to make up for it.

Fair point Pete.  I would add though that being a football fan isnt cheap . I go every now and then to watch Grimsby play and its £20 a game. You can go to a restaurant for that and get a main dish and a side at least.

From the sublime to the ridiculous those two games Chris.... enjoyed the first one even if it was a bit scary before & after the game. The second one of course not so much!

My favourite visit there was when we won 4-1 and Paul Groves got a hat-trick

Last time I went was just before Xmas in the 2017-18 season when they got promoted and we just escaped relegation .....I'd say our chances of getting a win in this cup tie are about as good as the odds then

Not a particularly inspiring destination at all....  used to go to some of their games with a fan of theirs I knew when I lived in MK when they were riding high with David Pleat in charge (promoted that season after that 6-0 drubbing)

Played there a couple of times too when they had their artificial surface.... still never really warmed to the place, although the post match sandwiches were tasty. They literally flew off the plates

I remember that 6-0 defeat well. drunk it down all game too IIRC. The Sports Telegraph headlines that night was WHITE HOT, as Steve (I think) White scored 4.

It doesn't last though Mariner and the pressure on the players to get that and maintain it is tough. I look at some of the players who have done well in the premiership and for then to it all go to pot via injury(Jack Wilshire) or even personal problems. There's things we dont always see that go on behind the scenes in a players lives(applies to all levels in the professional set up eg from premiership to league 2)  that can affect them negatively which  doesn't come out in the media. Paul Scholes loosely touched this in a interview. He has a disabled lad and he was having problems. It affected him during a game which resulted in poor performance and Alex Ferguson took him off early .

I remember that 6-0 defeat well. drunk it down all game too IIRC. The Sports Telegraph headlines that night was WHITE HOT, as Steve (I think) White scored 4.

That's the one Les - got absolutely rinsed both on and off the pitch

I can't remember which season it was but I am sure they had a large open end and the Luton fans were obviously feeling sorry for us as and they didn't feel we had enough and they had had a whip round for a couple of tons of rubble and countless darts as they were kindly throwing them over the fence for us.

Tim, I saw what you did there!

I went to the 4 1 win there. Good day out.

I went to see Worsbrough Bridge U23 v Frickley U23 a week last Monday and there is a cracking programme stall in the clubhouse. I picked up the programme for that game. I had it somewhere at home but thought it'd save me rooting it out. Happy memories. Been one of my happier hunting grounds.

Always thought Luton's fans were snidey but they won't bother you unless they heavily outnumber you. I got chased all over the place after that 2 0 win in 1981. There were about ten of them so that would have been about their favoured odds.

Paul could tell you about how unpleasant they can be when they have one or two rival supporters on their own.

Wonder what sort of ticket prices we'll have to pay for this.

I was at the 2-0 win in 1981. I don't remember a thing about the game itself, but I do vividly recall that I strayed a little too close to the fence separating the home fans from the visitors and a delightful gentleman from Luton spat a piece of chewed up pie at me! Funny the things you remember!

Naturally a disappointing draw in the Bullseye look what you could've won mould but I'll be making my way there. Firstly to support the lads who have done so well to get this far against higher league opposition. Secondly, because it's an old school ground I've yet to visit and if their new ground gets the go ahead soon, it could feasibly be the last chance to see the Mariners there. Lastly, because how often do we get to see Town play in the 4th round of the FA Cup and we've got fück all to lose. Probably a 1 in 5 chance we sneak a replay or an upset. Them's good enough odds for me
