Hmmm. Wonder where he'll end up? I just can't imagine. There's no possible way of knowing.
I'll remember him fondly thanks to his exploits last season, but another who you can't help but wonder, "what if..." about.

The debate on whether it’s the right decision has been done to death.
My question is why did the club felt the need to lie in December when they said this wasn’t a permanent move, despite Yeovil saying as much?

Doesn't mean it was a lie. Maybe the payoff just hadn't been signed off.

I suppose Yeovil said it was a permanent deal, whereas we have (technically speaking) ripped up his contract rather than agree a transfer with them.
It's splitting hairs and we all know he signs for Yeovil this week. Someone, at either club, has ballsed up on this one. I think a bit of transparency will no doubt be sought at the fans forum. Equally so if we bring in an improvement that ignites our season, no-one will remember it.

Thanks for all you effort while here, one of the promotion side so will always be a mariner. Good luck in the future

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Agree that we've done this chat to death already. Good luck to him, thanks for scoring one of the most important goals in our history. Shame things didn't work out.
I'll miss him cutting inside the opponents box, his WWII fighter pilot haircut and this season him running up and down the touchline in training gear.

Hopefully, it also indicates that we've got a replacement lined up already (on the assumption that O'Neill isn't seen as the replacement?).

Not happy one bit with this, be nice to know what Hurst doesn't like about him? Could it be his eye for goal, the way he is prepared to take a defender on of the creativity he offers the team

JMD seemed like a decent footballer but there must be a reason why he hasn't really stuck at any club. It seemed bizarre that Woking let him go and it will seem odd to Yeovil that we didn't want him. I hope it works for him there but something isn't right..

I have it on good authority that part of his agreement with Yeovil is that the number 10 shirt is his and he’s not expected to track back , his role is to create when he’s given the ball .

My question is why did the club felt the need to lie in December when they said this wasn’t a permanent move, despite Yeovil saying as much?
Did they lie, or did they correct Yeovil’s assertion that a deal had been agreed. Seems to me Town hadn’t agreed anything until today. Yeovil’s manager said in his post match comments this weekend a deal had almost been agreed. Begs the question why are Yeovil wasting their time negotiating something that had (according to them and you) already been agreed… The quickness of some to criticise us just for the sake of it is abit interesting..

The phrasing is a bit odd. It suggests we've come to a settlement to pay up some of his contract. Couldn't we have just given him to Yeovil on a free transfer and not paid anything?

Yeovil said they’d agreed terms with the player, GTFC said nothing had been agreed between the two clubs, which was probably the case until today. Think a lot of gripes people have with the club could be overcome with some basic literacy & reading comprehension.

He’s probably on more here that they weren’t willing to fund for the next 6 months so we likely gave him a portion of that to make up the difference. Yeovil pay their amount JMD gets most of what he would have got here Town save the commitment of his salary for next 6 months

Simply not a Hurst type run yourself into the ground player. Good enough for Lg 2 not sure but never got a run, certainly lots of skill and ability. Pity he has gone, better player than any of the young loanees we had. As Noddy H once sang 'thanx for the memory'.

Yes, there is a reason for that, and that he's gone to a struggling National League side. Did a job for us when it mattered - thanks for that JMD, now let's move quickly on...

Good luck to him. Really enjoyed watching him and he'll not be forgotten after that goal in June. For those talking him up as a lower league Glenn Hoddle it might be worth reflecting on why his best offer is Yeovil and why they'll be his 11th club, including loans, at the age of 25.

Always seemed to make something happen when he was on the pitch (though i do think made a better impact as a sub than when he started games.) Also great set piece taker. I did really like him.
But.
Was either injured, coming back from injury or struggling with fitness for the majority of his stay here. Never looked 100% fully fit, IMO.

Top attacking player at national league level but there are reasons league 2 managers haven't fancied him for sustained spells. He's now at a struggling national league side and playing at that level for the next 18 months. Sad because of his goal in the play off final, that'll never be forgotten, but in the grand scheme of things hard to be that bothered. Good luck to JMD

Im guessing you’re insinuating that Vernam would not be an upgrade on JMD if we were to sign him. I think the fact that since leaving us he’s signed for two League One teams and probably the biggest club in League Two says a lot compared to the fact that JMD’s other two recent clubs are Woking and Yeovil.

A player out of time unfortunately, in an era where fitness and graft are as important, or more so, than pure talent.

Makes room for another athlete I suppose
expect better from you tbh. Khan and 60 minutes from O'Neill shows me that we are not going to miss him. If he's so good , why's he joining a team threatened with relegation from the national league? If he's that good why's he chopped n changed so many times, never staying anywhere very long, and even when he is playing never gets a prolonged run? He might be talented , but you need a lot more to be a pro in div 2. Why did he not respond to the criticism and get fitter? I'm led to believe that he has long standing issues off the pitch. GTFC were trying to help him with those ,but he hasn't changed so there had to be a parting of the ways

Let’s not post anything like that again? Yeovil/Town PR excrement: fine. Unsubstantiated and damaging rumour: not.

expect better from you tbh.
Well thanks for what I believe is a compliment and I might be old fashioned but I just believe there should still be a place, if not in the first eleven, in the match day squad for someone who can make things happen on the pitch, be that a goal from distance, a tap in, a quality free kick or just beating his full back with skill rather than pace.
I might be wrong but feel if he’d appeared in a few more home games we might have a few more home wins and we might have had a bit more entertainment. Kiernan had the golden game v Plymouth but other than grafting for the full 90 minutes what else has he really added? Hardly a goal and likely very few if any assists. JMD makes things happen and whilst I’m not privy to what his problems are off the pitch my judgement is based on what he does on it. Clearly if he’s missing training or out on a Friday night my opinion would be different.

I wouldn’t post if I heard it from multiple people, did some digging and he was released by Orient for the exact same thing.
Was that based on a random post on the Orient fans forum by any chance?

Cast your minds back to half time at Orient this year. Instead of stretching, loosening exercises prior to Greg's substitute drills, JMD spent 5 min idly chatting to an Orient sub. Not saying who. At the time I simply thought 'lazy devil' .
Not seen the removed post but I can guess what the buzz is about. New start best thing all round.

Not personally assuming any great scandal. From what Hurst has said in the past, I suspect a lot of it was that he just hasn't worked hard enough to get fit and into the team.
As others have commented, I think he was always a more effective player coming off the bench. If you're facing tired defenders, that slight lack of pace and running isn't such an issue, but he often seemed to struggle to get involved when starting games.
Loads of ability, though, and an eye for goal so he'll probably do well for Yeovil. And his next club after them in 18 months or so!

Apparently JMD was overheard asking for Cod in Marklews. Then the dirty get got a pot of gravy to go with his fish and chips. What put the icing on the cake was that he got Pepsi Max instead of Dandelion and Burdock to wash it all down. From that moment his time at Blundell Park was over.

Gravy goes on the chips, zero problem with that personally. Has to be Dandelion & Burdock.to wash it down with though. If true, which I fully suspect it is, good riddance!

I guess this frees up more wages for the proven striker we won't sign. Expecting more kids on loan, maybe another player who will run around a lot and a last minute panic buy in the mould of Stefan Payne who is there for a payday and not to put effort in.

The debate on whether it’s the right decision has been done to death.
My question is why did the club felt the need to lie in December when they said this wasn’t a permanent move, despite Yeovil saying as much?
From the OS: In light of the contradictory statements regarding Jordan Maguire-Drew joining Yeovil Town, we would like to reiterate that his deal is an initial one-month loan. Although we can confirm that informal discussions regarding a permanent transfer have taken place between the two clubs, it is important to state that nothing has been formally agreed at this stage and Jordan remains under contract with GTFC. We would like to wish Jordan well during his loan spell with the Glovers. *************************************************************************************************** Posted the above in December. Just appears that Yeovil "jumped the gun" - probably to cheer up their fanbase. I see no lie.

I wish him well. I’ll never forget that free kick 14 seconds from the end of the Notts County game he took which lead to our equaliser, and the ball he played into box a minute from the end of extra time in the same game to set up the winner.
I will certainly never forget his goal in the play off final either.
So we have much to thank him for. Hope it works out for him.
Thanks JMD!
