The Penalty Decision

Deserves a thread of its own. How in gods name does a professional referee not see this as a penalty, it couldnt be more blatant, horrendous

Stone wall penalty. 99.9% of referees would give that.
There was also an incident earlier on in the game for me where I'd say 80% sure it was also a penalty. The initial tackle was a foul from them, second was a foul from us but the ref carried play on with that aswell.

Diabolical officiating.

You would think in a 3rd round game with no championship or prem games , and that was on international TV we would get much better refs but that was an absolutely awful decision. Looked it at the time, looks it even more so now!

I actually think he got that decision right. It stayed inside the box and it was a very slight nudge from our lad

Not the case pal, the keeper took the ball a good 6" over the line, before Orsi got near him who then did give him a nudge.

I never post on here, but feel I need to with this.

Even the Mrs said how is that not a penalty. Says it all...Horrendous that the ref thought it was a good challenge for the ball.

Ref was rubbish all match. It's an obvious penalty but it felt like he didn't give it because they were already behind and he went into business for himself by giving them a chance to get back in it. He let a couple of things go that could and in that case should have resulted in a penalty/free kick in a good position after they went behind.

My wife, who doesn't watch or understand football, laughed her head off when I showed her the video. It was just such a ridiculous challenge that I can't imagine how the referee could deny a penalty from it.

I thought it was similar to the second pen england got albeit after var v france in the wc, the one kane missed

Watching it yet again its an utterly insane decision- pen all over

He’s not a professional referee though. Select Group & Select Group 2 referees are professional. The referee we had yesterday was a Level 1 referee.

The ball never technically left the area. Watch again, although the bottom of the ball is placed marginally outside the box not all of the ball was outside

I didn’t really see anything as I’m right at the Osmond end of the main stand. But on seeing the video later when I got home, flipping hell.

Being professional also doesn’t mean he won’t make mistakes , as many a player does every single game…

An incredible decision. What was he thinking? Thankfully it didn’t impact the result but it is still hard to fathom.

The more you watch it, the worse it gets.

He's got a clear line of sight on it, no reason for him to be looking elsewhere, clearly no chance of the defender getting to the ball first....baffling.

I agree. I can see absolutely no reason at all why he doesn’t give it. It’s a blatant foul and he’s looking right at it! Short of calling the ref a cheat, you’d have to question his eyesight or judgement, but, of course, nobody gets the chance to hold him to account in a public forum. It’s about as clear a penalty as you’ll ever see.

There was a penalty given in the Man City game yesterday that was almost identical. Ref pointed straight to the spot and not much complaint from Chelsea.

You can only imagine that he must have somehow thought it was a shoulder charge, which in itself is bizarre considering their player simply ploughed into the back of Morris.
