It makes me wonder when Efete & Holohan can’t land a simple throw in routine under no real pressure.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Very NL feeling game. Horrible looking pitch, other team full of big bruisers that make us look small and weak and we can't seem to keep hold of the ball for longer than a few seconds.

Good goal, neat switch of play BK then in behind them, decent ball by Efete and numbers arriving that’s how you unlock sides.

That’s possibly why our two best ball players are on the bench. We look very much like a team that’s only won one of our last seven league games.
Got to agree. If we are playing 5 across the middle, we need to find room for Hunt.

CROCOMBE NEEDS TO STAY IN GOAL AND SHUT HIS MOUTH - WHY GET BOOKED FOR SOMETHING 50 YARDS AWAY ??
Every game he seems to interfere when not involved !!
No reserve keeper so he needs telling !!
Sort it, Mr Hurst, before he costs the team !!

Awful looking tackle. Harrogate look like they don't have much left already and have resorted to hard tackles to stop us taking control of the game. If we can get a handle on this they'll probably be worn out after 10-15 mins and be there for the taking second half. We just have to not let them score again.

At times we’ve given glimpses of what a good side we could be in that half, just keep doing what we’re doing and we’ll get the lead in this game.
Ref is a soft @rse, some shocking tackles by them.

There is every chance of Town grabbing this game this half, but they need to pass quicker, and in front of players to run onto.
Get Efete crossing early, then Khan and McAtee will look so much more dangerohs !
Will Max Wright appear for them next half ??

Good positioning from Clifton to be there for that second ball and finish because that wasn't a penalty, just slipped over.

Poor from Town, losing the ball, Effete fannying about and Max through his legs. We need to be much more professional.

Having said that....
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

He was ball watching instead of watching the attacker for the first and weak for their second.

JT asked why did we lose. The answer is simple, we didn't do the very basics of defending. We go again with Salford on Thursday.

Aaaargghhhhh!!! You know what annoys me most, I don't expect to win every week, I don't even expect us to be the best team every week. But what annoys me is when we play against a poor team like this and set up 'square pegs in round holes' and not use our bench players. Not to mention bringing off a player who's done nothing all game and looks tired. .3 points lost and its Hurst to blame for this one. I felt a few lads actually had decent games today (Gav, kiernan, clifton, michee) to name a few. Feel for Crocombe and he can't be blamed for that goal

I’m usually quite balanced but we lost that as we were completely unprofessional, mentally lazy and the (lack of) use of the bench was ridiculous. The manager and players need a kick in the backside as that’s 3 points p1ssed away. Lazy from top to bottom.

Someone tell Hurst he doesn't need to be a stubborn girl private and he is allowed to use some substitutes every now and then. Absolutely disgusting result today, three points chucked away because our manager only wants to play his favourites.

Unacceptable to lose that. Very poor management. A game we should have controlled thrown away once again.
Maybe I'm overreacting a bit but there's no way we should be losing that.

I'm fine with us being a mediocre mid-table team as long as we survive this season. My expectations pre-season were that if we could finish in the top 10 that would be amazing but expect mid-table. The problem is we throw away games like this when we are in control because we don't want it enough. Coaches too, why do we even have a bench because they never want to utilise any of it. All fine when we seem to be in control and ahead but when stuff falls apart you wonder why we didn't switch it up and go for killing the game off instead of this slow and steady keeping shape and hoping we can fend them off.
I do wonder what the players do at the training ground besides mess about and go "wheeey" a lot for the cameras because it doesn't look like they are watching games back and learning from their mistakes. They make the same defensive mistakes time and time again letting players walk through them or not picking up loose balls.

I ask again ...... Are we a better team than the one ph left the last time we came up ? . I find it all a bit predictable now . The investment in the background is brilliant and desperately needed doing but and it's a huge but , it's wins and performances that put bums on seats . Unless January is a good one I can see us dropping back down to 3.5k season tickets again next season

Awful performance, we did so well to go 2-1 in front and had the incentive up until half time but gave the ball away far too many times and Mcatee was just a passenger 2nd half. We looked like a team who really didn’t want to be out there today.
|
| Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 ) |

I'm his biggest fan but a cba performance from MacAtee today didn't help the cause. A performance that regrettably I'm getting far too accustomed too. Low points too to the Manager for not freshening the team up earlier than he did.

The suggestion that this group of players don’t want it enough is exactly the sort of nonsense I expect on here after a defeat. A lack of quality in the final 3rd and some individual errors cost us but to suggest we didn’t want it is disrespectful to a solid hard working team.

We're not very good are we? Too sloppy at the business ends of the pitch.
Needs sorting in the window.
We give the ball away like Sunday league players, embarrassing they we can’t do the basics.

I don’t think the board are to blame for today, players and manager need to do better.
Words are empty unless you back them up with actions. January should tell us more.

What background investment?

Well, we are a team I’ll grant you that. But that team should be backed up by the other players on the bench. Harrogate used theirs, we didn’t and we’re now even letting bench options go out on loan.

RH question to Robbie Stockdale "could Max have done anything with the winner" (paraphrase) Robbie thinks not, I think he could have saved the shot before it hit the post.

Four away league defeats on the bounce all against poor or average opposition . It’s only the two FA cup wins that have stopped this looking like a mid season meltdown.

Imagine being at work say... driving a delivery van. You're brilliant at it and the customers love you. But the loader is off sick so the manager puts you on loading and takes you away from the driving... this is pretty much what's happening with McAtee right now

It would have been easier to say McAtee isn't being played in the right position, and he's not.

That and the fact we won the game before this! Maybe those slagging Taylor off away at Hartlepool have realised his value to the team since he’s been injured.

It’s a very sad reflection on our summer transfer window that we only have two of our own strikers on the books. One is knackered (Taylor) and the other (Orsi) clearly isn’t seen as good enough to start by the manager who signed him.

To lose that after being 2-1 up against a limited side is not good enough,.as much as I never expected us to be at the business end of the table this season. We've been largely crap since Stockport on October 15th, Plymouth anomaly aside and can't keep a clean sheet. I'd be minded to go 5 at the back and never play McAtee up top on his own ever again.

11 points from the last 30 available in the league, 3 wins, 2 draws, 5 defeats. Level GD (amazingly) that for all season long would give you 50 points, just. Not sure what constitutes a meltdown as we took 16 points from the first 11 games wasn't promotion form but it was decent considering we'd just come up.

Does anybody have the gate and away gate numbers?
I now have the Gate 2744 but struggling to get a figure for our magnificent travelling fans. I don't recall hearing it from JT, it's not on GT twitter ( nor is a thank you for the travelling fans) and it's not mentioned in the GT summary. So if somebody could post it, with the source, I would greatly appreciate it to complete the prediction table. Many thanks DB

Going to get slaughtered for saying this but i believe Hurst has taken us as far as he can, so we either accept being a mediocre side i league 2 just going through the motions or we change things starting with Hurst, I like PH but he just doesn't have a plan "B" and we are just getting too predictable and very easy to beat, shocking defeat today

Inclined to agree, but I still think the lack of a bogle-podge combination is all we are missing. Those 2 scoring goals has us on the verge of the play offs in Hursts last reign and we played pretty much the same style as we are now. Now, maybe that glossed over his inadequacy to change games mid flow which is what we are witnessing now. I believe we have 3/4 of a play off squad and with 3-4 solid additions we'd be up there, but I'm just not sure PH would take us any further. What will be interesting is if we are floundering just above the relegation slots with 7- 8 games to go is what reaction we'll get out of the board...

No slaughter from this post. I thought he was extremely negative in his pre match comments and his interview tonight was dreadful. I’d like to see him held to account by the board rather than read some Guardian reader waffle.

I can answer that now! They won't dismiss Hurst whatever happens. Their whole philosophy is based on giving the manager confidence in his position and giving him the tools for the job. It's a fine line between job security and complacency but their strategy worked last season. If the long term plan is to really work we will need to sign quality players that are a cut above not just hard working replacements.

Doesn't matter who we sign, Hurst needs to change his approach to games. We could have Mbappe and Haaland and he'd still only play 1 up front!. There's levels for players and managers alike and I just can't help thinking Hurst is struggling at this level.. You can say he did well at the shrews and to a degree with us first time round but Stockwood, Petitte et al won't risk another relegation to the NL and if that means pulling the plug on Hurst I honestly think they will. I'm not completely anti Hurst but I also want a product thats worth my time and money investing into, and again, right now, I feel that product is not offering value for money

You’re right but is it because he says the right things? I’ve never known a squad get worse not better after a promotion before. I was never a fan of Mani and Abrahams but they were better than what we have now and Fox left a big hole in the squad. We got promoted, maybe with a slice of fortune, but surely that should have been a catalyst to improve rather than a reason for the current indifference.

What's your basis to saying we've got worse? Yes we won the playoffs but as far as the league system is concerned we were 6th best in the 5th division last season. As it stands we're 16th in the 4th division, which is comfortably better even if many times more boring. We won't go down, we won't go up, not the most fun but we don't have many of these seasons. This is still a Hurst who got a relegation favourite Shrewsbury to a 3rd division play off final, it won't happen this year but there's plenty to suggest this isn't as far as he can take us. This board won't sack him, that's their philosophy, and whether you or I disagree with that isn't too relevant, we might as well support him because I doubt he's going anywhere.

Is it wrong to think better? There’s no team I’ve seen that we couldn’t beat with a couple of improvements. I’m finding the indifference bewildering.

It's not wrong to think better, and I think it's pretty disappointing how this season is petering out, but I still think it's wrong to suggest we've got worse than last season, we just haven't improved as much as we maybe should have. I agree you don't see teams much better than us but I also think it's a fine line between lower midtable and playoffs in this league. Even looking at the table there's a gap between the top 3 and we all know you have to be terribly run to go down.

I think we broadly agree. I’m not convinced, however, that the manager is on the right track.

We will not get better while Hurst insists that he will not up set the rest of the team bringing better players in , And why --because they will want to get paid more as they are better players and he does not want to upset his fav buddies. And its about time our not so new owners got there finger out and had words in his ear in stead of leaving it all to him and making him feel comfortable and safe.. I have noticed that a few are coming out and saying things i have said before and got shot down for , and that is the product on sale here is football not over priced beer and nice pies etc its football and our product sucks at the moment , i am begining to think the crowds are high simply because they bought season tickets in advance expecting us to kick on, not like last time . The question is would they come and pay in numbers if they had not got season tickets ?

I think we broadly agree. I’m not convinced, however, that the manager is on the right track.
No he isn't. We owe him a lot and last season will live forever in the memory but he has to be challenged about the quality of his signings and his reluctance to take advantage of the 5 subs rule. How many players does he get through in a calendar year? In all his years in management he never seems to sign enough players he actually wants. Less is more I would suggest; quality over quantity. I hope in the next two windows he takes advantage of our increased purchasing power and gets out of the bargain basement mentality that seems to plague him.

Where’s the purchasing power? I’m still waiting for the transparency we were promised. The current chairman provides more questions than answers. I’m not for a minute suggesting I preferred the previous owner but we were promised transparency and we seem to be getting waffle and bulls**t. Both from the board and the manager. I’d really like to know how the increase in off field personnel has affected the playing budget.

I meant the increased revenue from gate receipts and the owners' insistence that they will consider any Hurst request re signings. We don't really know though which I think is what you are getting at. Hurst gives every impression of spending his own money but has he really got the budget? I don't want to hear any more about values or much more about generic ambitions as we have all got the message. We now need to concentrate on team building.

I am getting at it. What is the increased revenue being spent on? Is the budget there for a goal scorer? Do they think they can buy a goal scorer for the same price as, for example, a left back? You put it much more politely than me. Values are, of course, worthy but only if the results are there too. What are we? Five or six places higher than when Hurst came back?
