She was an absolute diamond. My late step brother used the club regularly and all the years later when we gave her the balance or the Mariachi money she remembered him. It was a pleasure to help them in that way as a thank you for all they did for David and it allowed them to make a couple of games they’d not have been able to otherwise. Rest in peace Daphne.

Daphne Farquarson was quite simply an inspiration. She was the driving force behind (it should be remembered) was one of the first if not actually the first Football League clubs Disabled Supporters Clubs. Founded in the early 80s at a time when women had virtually no recognition in the professional game and disabled facilities were to put it mildly sporadic. I can remember her challenging teams who advised that due to a lack of facilities her bus wouldn't be welcome at away games. At one point she insisted on taking a bus to a club that had refused disabled access to try to shame them into reversing that decision. Not only did she take on clubs but she knew how to get funding and several big businesses in our area found it hard to resist her pleas for support. Over the years literally hundreds of disabled Town fans have her and her helpers to thank for the fact that they could watch their favourite team. In the 90s I had the privilege of travelling on her bus as a helper. Her dedication to the group was complete. There will never be another Daphne. May she rest in peace.

Thank you for pointing out how important she was for disabled supporters.

Now I’m not one to moan about red crosses normally, but who in gods name decided to add one to this post. Pathetic.

I agree. Perhaps on this occasion, Rob should name and shame.

I helped out with the Disabled Supporters' Club on a few occasions 30-odd years ago. It was for the 'community service' aspect of the DoE scheme, so I can't claim I did it out of the goodness of my own heart (unlike Daphne). I do remember Daphne being extremely friendly and forgiving as I was pretty bloody useless as a helper and didn't have the first clue what I should be doing! A very impressive lady who has helped so many over the years.
