2 away wins out of 3 to start the season, and the Mariners have already won more times away than Scunny did in the whole of last season.  And that was at Oldham who went down with them.

Its not a sensible comparison  as the Iron only won 4 times last season, and we want to challenge, but it's still  fun to compare 😉😃

Got some tough fixtures coming up, but 5 of the next 7 league games in September are at home, including the re-arranged Carlisle game.

After looking at the opposition I'm hoping for at least 17 points out of the 21. Given our current run, including the draw with Northampton, they are all winable games.

Realistically we aren’t going to produce Championship winning form like that

We don't need to be league champions to get promoted as last season proved, just one of the four that go up.

At least 17 points?

That would take 5 wins and 2 draws. I'd be happy with 10 or 11 points from those 7 games. We are currently going at 1.6 PPG and I would be happy to maintain that for the entire season.

1.6 gives you 73 points or there abouts, that enough for the playoffs?

In the 17 away games played in 2022 so far (not counting the play off final), we've averaged 1.8 points per game

It's getting a bit carried away when we've won 2 games due mostly to the opposition's inability to score goals on a plate rather than us outplaying and outscoring teams. We've been lucky, and obviously got a great team spirit. But our performances haven't been as good as our points return so far. If we play like we have the last 3 games, I can't see us being anywhere near the top, even if we have got 7 points out of them.

I think it’s clear what Hurst’s tactics have been. Contain for 70 minutes or so and then use the extra fitness to go for it at the end. Nerve wracking but it’s working.

You know me Ginny, positive, enthusiastic, glass half full and I did say a year ago that we'd get promoted.

It's always a good omen when you play badly and win. Ride your luck when key players are injured is a good sign of a team on the up.

We aren’t very far off being a seriously good side in this league. I’m not even sure we’re a striker short. We need midfielders and wingers getting closer to and running beyond Taylor. Those lads need to get into better areas and create better chances. That’s the issue, we don’t actually create that many chances. I’ve no idea if Khan will enhance us in that department or if a fully fit Wearne will either. I certainly don’t think the Amos/Glennon and then Clifton combination is going to break too many sides down. Harry is better, as we saw yesterday, at popping up in the box.

I thought the run Clifton made for his first yesterday was excellent with a well taken finish

That’s what I said. He’s better at making runs off the ball, dragging players out of position and popping up in the 6 yard box than he is at running at his man and putting a ball in or playing the killer pass.

We are a tough, fit ,well organised side that is hard to beat. Teams like that grind out result even when not playing fantastic flowing football.

I would like us to be more adventurous in the home games at least, but wouldn't complain at a few more 2-1 wins.

And yet Rochdale and now Walsall huffed and puffed and came away with intercourse all.

You make your own luck in football and with a team spirit and a lack of realising when you’re beaten you always have a chance.

Not entirely sure anyone is getting carried away, more enjoying it and rightly so, after the flipping shambles we’ve endured in recent years it’s a breath of fresh air to be that team that nicks the win. Full houses, optimism and a plan and vision for the club.

I guess to put a positive spin on things, even when behind the fans should have the belief we can still get something from the game so should continue to be vocal in supporting the players.

This.

It wasn’t that long ago that we went 1 down and the feeling was ‘game over’, but now there is a real belief that we can come back from behind.

It could be luck and coincidence, but it seems to be more of a feel good factor around the club from top to bottom which gives that togetherness and that never say die attitude, they want to do it for each other and the fans and credit should go to everyone but especially the management team who have ensured they bring the right characters into the club to allow this to happen.

Have we been lucky though? We were better than Northampton IMO and it was us missing opportunities, not them. We were dire against Sutton, but they were equally as dire. Again though, it was us that missed guilt edged chances in that game. For the 40mins we played against Carlisle, we were the ones doing all the running. Only Orient have beaten us so far and they are top of the league. We could be sat on 5 wins with better finishing and no postponement, so to say we are lucky to be where we are simply because other teams couldn't finish chances is a tad negative. We have been just as profligate in some games.

Rochdale and Walsall missed chances against us but that's what happens at this level. It's why all the teams are looking for regular goalscorers.

I got this wrong. It's 6 league games in Sept. The Mansfield fixture is a Papa Johns game.
