I'm not liking this JMD bashing by the media, Hurst and now Doig. He's not a striker but has scored 7 goals in 22 games for us and been instrumental in quite a few important goals. I'm sure it was his free kick that Crocombe miskicked before Holohan scored the equaliser at Notts County with 10 seconds to go and he was at the back stick to score the winner at the London Stadium. His dummy played a huge part in McAtee equalising too.
I understand his defensive game isn't brilliant and his fitness has always been a concern but if he ran up and down for 90 minutes at pace he wouldn't be at this level because technically he is very good.
I'm sorry but have to disagree, I know I took the pis£ earlier but Hurst/Doig have obviously noticed there's an attitude problem somewhere with JMD, and we're not the first club to have witnessed it. Doig did say that they are working with him to sort "that side" out and they are seeing an improvement, but ultimately it's up to JMD to sort himself out.

When he joined us it was after his leaving his last club under "mental health" reasons and having his contract cancelled ....he doesn't seem to have settled that long anywhere, similar reports of bright starts then fades, falls out of favour....repeat.
Clearly talented, has proven his worth in even brief appearances, hope we can be the club to get him settled but I think he will have to accept the terms being offered by Hurst to be involved, that may be having to accept he is an impact sub when needed if he can't achieve the benchmark set for a starting place.

The team selection on Saturday will give an indication of where he truly is. I said above he’ll have to play but I’d forgotten he could go with the Amos/Glennon left sided combo. However, if he picks Harry on the right and Glennon on the left on Saturday, that surely lays bare where he stands in the pecking order. I can see him getting shipped out, especially if another winger comes in as Hursty says might happen.
It would disappoint me, we wouldn’t have got promoted without him and along with McAtee is probably the most talented player at the club.

We could easily play a four left to right of clifton green Morris and holohan, with pepple and Taylor upfront. Even without mcatee, possibly without wearne and with kiernan ineligible we do have options, just not as many as we'd like...

The thing is though, if attitude and getting the right person in such a cornerstone of the Hursty mantra why have they gone against that and signed a player who has very well documented and discussed aversions to tracking back and getting stuck in? Perhaps they think that he might respond well to this public bashing and if that's the case I hope they're right.

It probably doesn't help that the press keep asking the question regarding JMD and we have to appreciate Hurst (and Doig) for being as honest as they can be about the situation. I can't imagine Hurst would go public with his thoughts if it wasn't something he'd made clear to JMD and perhaps is getting a little frustrated with himself (as in JMD is not doing what there asking of him). He reminds me of Scott Neilsen, clearly a player there, has ability, swagger and can finish but there's clearly a mentality issue that stops him going to the next level.

I think Hurst has done the same as he has done in the past with JMD, in taking on a player that has ability but has not been able to use it fully. Coaching him to bring out his full ability and potential as per McAtee. It looks to me as if Hursty and Doig are becoming frustrated that, as good as JMD is, JMD is holding himself back and not responding for them as he should.

I’d tend to agree with this. I’m a fan of JMD but there’s something missing, be that attitude, desire or simply them wanting a bit more effort. There’s no doubt a player in their, one that has proved vital to us but we have to trust Hurst, he’s been very rarely wrong. I’d still fancy the Amos/Glennon pairing down the left.

Some interviews conducted for Head of Recruitment. Nobody offered job yet - this sounds more like satire than part of a genuine interview lol.
I'm not a fan of naming and shaming players in public, but potentially they've done everything they can think of behind closed doors to get the reaction they want from JMD and so applying public pressure is the option Doig etc have been left with using. As always, I'd love to be a fly on the wall behind the scenes and get the full picture....

Doig always sounds like the kind of guy who’s fun at parties. Not!
He could always answer the phone for the Samaritans.
