Yeah I imagine it’s a decent fee, didn’t you turn down a bud from Morecambe for him?

He'll be a big loss for us. Very Tenacious holding midfielder. One of main reasons we had best defence in league. 150% every game brick wall type player. Would hope we get some decent 💰 for him to be fair.

If it is him, let's hope he can make the step up to League football well.

One area where we are lacking a little in certain positions is League experience, but you'd hope that players who are good at the top end of the National League will be at the very least decent in League Two.

A mate of mine told me that is exactly what the Club are doing and JS sort of confirmed it in his interview with using data to help the recruitment process. If you remember the link with Loughborough University that was announced some while ago, this apparently was what their focus is, using data to identify players that are undervalued/under utilised in their teams that we can bring in and get more out of them.

This is the signing for me that feels like the vital peice of the puzzle to take this side to the next level. Ben foxes playoff performances were brilliant but overall during the season a defensive midfield lynchpin to really allow the attack more freedom wouldve put us closer to thw title I think (not that it mattered)

I’ve watched all the playoff games in full again and as good as Ben Fox was, especially against county, we were wide open in midfield against the counter attack on several occasions in each game, and not just in extra time with tired legs. Obviously it wasn’t just fox at fault, and many of them came from lazy passes giving the ball away. I definitely think we need a more defensive minded central midfielder especially in a higher league.

Thrilled with this, he was exceptional when we played them at the Shay. I remember chatting to my mate at the game about how impressed we were with him and googling him afterwards to see he'd never really been anywhere.
Covered every blade of grass and dominated the centre of the park.

Hope he can make the step up.

Defensive midfielder who can also play centre half apparently. Just had a bit of a read about him and it sounds like he is a steady League Two level player who has had his fair share of injuries.

Played for England youth sides and Hurst signed him at Shrewsbury. Turned 26 in April. Sounds promising.

How refreshing to see we are cherry picking teams best players instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel for what’s left as we have done in recent seasons. I’m happy with the data analogy approach, look what it’s done for Brentford since they applied it. I remember when they was slogging it in Division 2 with us. Seems like a lifetime ago we was watching the likes of James Berrett gracing the pitch for us.

Don’t want to get too excited about this one until it’s officially announced as I don’t think I could take missing out on Green. By far and a way the best CM I saw against us last season and the type of player we’ve not had for years. IF it happens it’ll be an unreal bit of business from Hurst.

Ask Brighton & Brentford. It’s simple.

Work out what a successful team looks like statistically and then sign individuals with statistics that meet that criteria.

Brentford signed a midfielder from Bochum who was a bit part player in 2.Bundesliga. Bochum didn’t rate him and didn’t think he was very good. Brentford spotted something in him and signed him for a small fee.

He’s made 69 league starts over less than 2 seasons at Brentford and is close to a Germany call up.

Brentford knew a Bochum player better than Bochum did.

Morris sounds like he's only fit half the time, so one to avoid for me. Can't see us bringing in two defensive mids too (assuming Green is coming). Next CM after this will be a box to box type or maybe more of a ball playing type I reckon.

You can say I’m getting carried away or think I’m mad but hear me out, it feels like we’re going to be play like Liverpool. Two athletic full backs flying forward at every opportunity, a midfield (Harry, Green, Morris, or any other player as that’s clearly the profile of player Hursty is after) who are absolute work horses, from what we read any 2 of those 3 are going to overrun anyone in that league, but crucially not be full of flair and creativity. Then let the front three/four have all the flair, guile and creativity.

We seem to have signed some players who have had issues elsewhere but if Hursty can get a tune out of them they’ll be a cut above this level, hence we’ll challenge if he’s got it spot on.

I've wasted my life in black and white, a pathetic act for a worthless cause

I’d imagine the leak may have come from the Halifax end. There usually isn’t any rumours as our signings are normally free agents, with no other club to negotiate with. Just my theory.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Seen the Fin Shrimpton rumour mentioned on a fair few social media platforms now... apparently it's a big bid(well big for us) and 2 year deal plus a 1 year option. Nothing from me to substantiate this, and no idea how good he is apart from what Scunny fans are saying

Sounds like there'll be at least one announced tomorrow ahead of the new shirts launching at the weekend.

After a massive panic about centre mids, there could be 3 signing at once! We'd probably just need a winger, striker, and GK and CB cover after that. I like that we're moving to predominantly permanent contracts, but I think our best chance of getting a decent striker is to use the loan market.

If Shrimpton is signing, he won't feature in the short term or possibly not this season at all save maybe in the EFL. He'll be long term prospect of the right calibre. For the start of the season another wide player would be a nice to have, but not essential, with the current squad. Priority would be a striker, CB and GK

If true, and signs certainly point that way then the signing of Green will be, potentially excellent! Admittedly my knowledge of Green is limited to a couple of games against Town and TV matches but he stood out as both a leader and top player each time. He’s a great age too (despite him looking like his paper round was in Helmand) and was a key part of what made Halifax so good last season!

We know Hursty likes a solid defence and I love that he’s looked at easily the best side defensively in the league last season and gone after two of the key components. The fact Maher and Green will already have a good knowledge of each other and relationship makes the signing that much more valuable!

Don’t know too much about Morris but he’s a name that is familiar.

I get the frustration of fans, signing new players is arguably the most exciting part of being a fan but if Hursty has proved anything over his career it’s that he excels in the transfer market and we should trust him wholly to bring in the right players at the right time and not rush into a deal for numbers sake. It would be difficult to quantify as as the subject of what makes a player good or successful is very subjective but I’d hazard a guess that Hursty’s ‘success rate’ of transfers that have been ‘successful’ is well up there, maybe 3/10 in favour of successes!

I’m frustrated but equally content and confident in Hursty and Doig and the work they will be doing to make sure we get players in who will fight tooth and nail, add quality and represent the club the right way to push us on.

Would love to know how he slipped through the net. Born in Grimsby to a bit of a club legend, it doesn't get much more "one of our own" than that. I wonder if it was just a case of Scunny being better than us at the time he joined them.

No idea if Gallimore Jr is good enough to consider in the future, but the reason he'd end up at Scunny is pretty obvious. Wiki says he joined their Youth Academy in 2011 when they were in the Championship (though relegated that season) and we were three divisions lower!

I'm guessing Tony was fully aware of what was going on under you know who with the insulting offers to McDermott etc. The youth team wasn't doing brilliant when Woods left which would probably have been the time Gallimore Jr was joining an academy.

The Scunny system has served him well, he's got first team experience but he needs to be careful that he doesn't sink with the ship.

Gallimore would be a good signing but I do find it weird that he's right footed.

If it’s true, and Dan Gallimore is a righty, that’s disgusting. So, so wrong. 😁

Where was he conceived, the Southern Hemisphere?

Do we know he would be a good signing? He's made a dozen appearances in a team which finished rock bottom of the Football League, most of them towards the end of the season when they were as good as down (and knew it) and so were deliberately playing youngsters. If he's half the player of his Dad, he'll be a decent prospect but I'm not really sure we have the evidence that he would be a good signing right at this moment. Nothing wrong sentimentally wanting him to play for GTFC after his Dad's sterling service, of course. You'd tend to hope he'd look after himself a bit better because most players can't perform to a high standard without the correct, erm, diet and lifestyle!

Scunny fan on one of the other forums when I asked him about the Shrimpton rumours:
"If you were to take one of our young players I would be surprised if it was Shrimpton based on the end of last season, I thought he was the worst out the young players who featured. I think Dan Galimore, another CM we have, is much better."

Much better than the worst of the young players of the worst team in the Football League might not be good enough!

Difficult for these Scunny youngsters, I suppose, as a lot are going to be thrown in at the deep end next season against some very experienced professionals. Our players still in their teens have barely made an appearance between them yet, though I'd imagine we'll see them perhaps introduced a bit more as the season progresses or, failing that, in the Chuckatrade Cup or whatever it is called these days.

I would fear for some youngsters being thrown in to the National League.....

A young centre half against the forward line at Woking/Solihull or a young striker against the defence at Maidenhead or Halifax. Men against boys.

That big lump at Notts Cty with the mullet would break a callow youth in half.
